First Seniors' Dinner of the Season ~ September 21st

Media Release ~ UBCM ~ Ferry Fare Increases A Drag on BC's Economy

 

Please see the attached from the Union of BC Municipalities...an important study with a lot of information.  Confirms the view of the Ferry Advisory Committee Chairs that high ferry fares are driving customers away and have a negative effect on BC coastal communities.

Flu Shots Points to Ponder

"Starting in 2013 visitors to health care facilities and other patient care locations will be expected to wear a mask if they did not get an influenza vaccine. Such visitors will be eligible to receive the vaccine for free."

Flu Shot Clinic on Thetis Island November 5th.

The Trivalent Influenza Vaccine for the Northern Hemisphere for the 2014/2015 season contains:

A/California /7/2009 (H1N1) pdm09-like virus, A/Texas/50/2012(H3N2)-like virus and B/Massachusetts/2/2012-like virus.  The A/Texas/50/2012 (H3N2)-like virus is new for the 2014/2015 season while the other two strains are unchanged from the 2013/2014 season. 

'Flu season historically commences late October.  If you enjoy charts and statistics, the BC Centre for Disease Control publishes weekly updates on influenza occurrences in the province, click here to view.

Soup's On Meeting

There will be a meeting of the great volunteers who make soup, bread, or dessert goodies for the popular Wednesday Soup's On social events.

If you have already signed up to help, please come to the Hall at 10AM on Thursday, September 11th. There is a rumour that coffee/tea and goodies will be available! 

If you are interested in becoming involved as a helper or soup maker this is an opportunity to find out what it is all about!

These are the dates open at this time: Oct 8, 29. Dec 10. Jan 7, 21, 28. Feb 4.  (The event runs on to April, but we will schedule "staff" for these dates later.)

A Day Of Events – Something For Everyone

Belly Dance Workshops  Saturday  10AM – Noon  &  2 - 4PM

(Master class on Sunday 2 - 4PM)

Amazing belly dance workshops with our internationally renowned special guest Amaya!  Beginners welcome.  If you have ever felt the urge to learn some belly dance moves, this will be the opportunity of a lifetime to learn from one of the world’s best. Preregistration required:  $30 each or all three for $75.

DINNER  5:00 – 6:30PM  Middle Eastern Feast prepared by Nettie & Don.
