Friday, January 30, 2015 at 9:12AM Penelakut Seafoods would like to invite Thetis Island community members to a consultation meeting to have open discussions about the expansion of our aquaculture tenure for Manila clams located at the Cut between Penelakut Island and Thetis Island.
Location: Forbes Hall

Time: 5:00 pm
Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 10:44AM Today I received a (E-Mail) letter from the office of; Hon. Jean Crowder, MP/Nanaimo-Cowichan.
It appears that Hon MP Crowder has been following up on related issues, as well as some of the same complaints from numerous residents in the Cowichan Valley.
I have been sent copies of letters between Minister Moore’s office and MP Crowder’s concerning Hi-Speed access issues.
In the letter from Minister Moore’s office it states the Federal Government is committed to having rural areas have accessibility to Hi-Speed (broadband) networks.
Who know when, or if we will ever have our concerns addressed, but at least we are still on the “Map”, so to speak. I felt it can’t hurt to keep sending letters to members of our government. I have also been in contact, once again, with senior management of TELUS. Though, these communications are going no where.
As I said; It is TELUS-Nothing, where the future is NOT friendly. The last comment from TELUS management was, and I quote; “We consider this matter closed”.
I responded; “Well, you may consider closed, but we surely don’t”.
This OTHER comment from TELUS should really get you fuming; “Does Thetis Island want charity from TELUS”! That was a verbatim quote
Well, who knows, keep the faith as they say, and, there is an election coming soon!

From The “Dark Side”
Comment from "Jim" ~ Did you ask Shaw to service the island?
Response from Steve: No one does, not Shaw, not Rogers, not Bill-Bob's Phone Co, Ltd. Nada, zilch.
You can get Satellite, but that's about it. And Sat is Iffy here on this side.
Thanks.
We have filed a formal complaint against Telus for a number of reasons. They also took away the local phone line access for Dial-Up a few months ago. So, Uniserve had to find a long distance number for us bumpkins to use. If you think Dial-Up slow, try connecting a LD number
Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 10:43AM We are in need of a chimney inspection and are wondering if anyone else is in need of a chimney sweep. it would reduce the cost and his efficiency if we booked a few visits on the same day. let me know if you are interested.

Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 10:40AM YOGA CANCELLED FEB. 3
Unfortunately there is a conflict with another event for this same day and to make life simpler for all of the Island Trust representatives, we are going to cancel the yoga class on Tuesday, February 3rd for 9:30 to 10:45. So do your off island running about and come on out for Thursday’s class. Then be back if you have an interest in the Senior’s – Elder Care meeting at 1:00 in the hall too.
See you all tomorrow. Lovin’ the warm, blue skies.
Warmly, Dawn Gordon

Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 2:26PM A big thank you to all those who came out to work in the new cemetery area: Claude Leger, Wayne Loiselle, Pam Lee, Nan Beals, Rod and Myrna Brownlee, Dave Steen, Joan and Dave Smirl, Vicki Walker, Wendy and Glen Andison, and Gurk Sarioglu.
A tip of the hat to the young men from Capernwray who also came to move mulch.
It was back breaking work digging out blackberry roots, cleaning up ditches and levelling mounds of soil. Thanks to your efforts we are making progress towards creating a new green cemetery space which is going to be beautiful!

Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 8:44PM There are several hundred people expected to attend Gwen's Memorial on Saturday. Parking by the hall will be restricted to the Hunter Family, the very elderly, and those with mobility problems. We ask that you drop off you passengers or baking and park on Mission Road or North Cove Road by the school and walk back. There will be traffic control persons to direct you.
We are expecting severe rain on Saturday so be prepared for your short walk.
Thank you. TIVFD Traffic Auxiliary
Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 8:44PM Seating: We expect more people to attend the service than Forbes Hall can accommodate so please be prepared in case you have to listen to the service from the library or outside. Tents will be set up with a sound system.
The first few rows in the hall will be marked and reserved for family members.
Food: Change of plans. If you are bringing food, we would appreciate it if you could drop it off between 10:00 and 12:00 Saturday morning so we can finish arranging larger platters before everyone arrives. If you bring it when you come, please drop it off at the side door near the library to leave the main entrance with less traffic. If you are wondering if we still need more food, the answer is YES! Just bring along a sweet or savory of your choice. Thank you!
Cards and guest books: A table will be set up on the patio by the front doors under a tent and there will be a basket for cards. There will also be 2 guest books for everyone to sign and just so you can be a little prepared, there is a space to write a memory or an encouraging word beside your name.
Parking: Parking is going to be a challenge as we are expecting 300 to 500 people so please car pool with a neighbor if possible and leave the area closest to the hall for family, guests from out of town and our seniors. Fire department members will assist you in angle parking on Mission Road and by the school.
Time: Starting time is 1:30 this Saturday, January 24th.
Thank you to everyone for your cooperation and your willing hearts and hands. I appreciate all the support.
Lynn Hunter
