Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 6:03PM It is with great pleasure and gratitude that ThINC would like to announce that the first goal in our agreement with the landowners of Lower Burchell Hill has been reached.Yes, because of you who have made pledges,25% of the total cost ($140,000) has been achieved. But there is even more exciting news. By successfully matching the $50,000 anonymous pledge as of today we have surpassed this first goal with $182,000 in funds having been pledged or 33% of the total. Your commitment and support towards the creation of this nature reserve is more than impressive. It will have an impact on the funding agencies and foundations which we will be approaching in the next phase of our fundraising campaign. We are still accepting pledges for those who would still like to get on board with the project.
THANK YOU! YOU ARE AWESOME!
Did you know that the proposed nature reserve on Lower Burchell Hill has been given a new name? It is now called Fairyslipper Forest Nature Reserve. This name was chosen because of the profuse number of Fairyslipper orchids that have been found growing there.Earlier this spring the ThINC team along with veteran filmmaker Don Cumming ( who volunteered his time and experience) were up on the hill making a video about the proposed nature reserve. It will soon be posted on youtube to be used as a crowding funding source through social media. We will let you know when it is up and running so that you can send it out to all your friends on Facebook and Twitter. Also, watch for our updated and revitalized website coming soon.
Once again thank -you and BRAVO for your support. It has been a pleasure for all of us on the ThINC team to reach out and connect with our community on behalf of this project. Your graciousness and generosity have been inspiring.

Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 6:01PM TIRRA has been working on a mosquito mitigation strategy since the nuisance issue was raised last fall.
For TIRRA to proceed further, a public meeting was held 30th May 2015 to vote on approval to develop a Pest Management Plan (PMP) through the Ministry of Environment.
Thank you to everyone who turned out to this meeting on a warm sunny afternoon, and for the valuable input and feedback provided. The motion to develop a PMP was overwhelmingly carried by a majority of those present.
The TIRRA Executive will be meeting shortly to establish a committee for developing the required site survey this summer, identifying potential larval mosquito habitats, for submission during the PMP process.
Thank you to those who have volunteered their names to be a part of the solution. If you are interested in being involved on this committee, and/or larvicide application, and have not submitted your name(s) already, please contact:
Ernie Hunter
Stu Downey
Thank you,
TIRRA Executive

Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 5:42PM Thirty five years ago this year (1980) Brian Hughes (lot 2) organized the first of what eventually became known as the Thetis island Open Golf Tournament. He brought a few work mates and friends together for a weekend on Thetis. Saturday was set aside for a golf game at Mt. Brenton, and on Sunday they all went fishing. Some of the local islanders, including Gene Beals, John Frost, Den Kelsey, Gary Urton and others soon joined the yearly tradition.
Over the years the format has changed a little, but the fun filled day of golf and gathering for a delicious meal has continued through the years. We would love to have you join us for golf and dinner, or if you prefer, just dinner on Saturday July 4th at Mt. Brenton Golf Course in Chemainus.

TIO Organizers, Doug Darling and Keith Rush
