FAC Update ~ Letter to Deputy Minister

Please find attached a letter sent yesterday to Kevin Richter ADM of MoTI, with whom we met with last week along with Judy Kirk of Kirk and Co. Consulting.  As you will be able to gather from the tone and content of the letter, we (FACC) are not happy with many aspects of the proposed community consultation, and want to ensure that this has been clearly communicated.  Please take the time to read the letter as it contains a lot of background information and detail that will serve us well during the upcoming meetings with government.

Girl Guide Cookies for Sale

The Chemainus Fire Chief, Neil Rukus, has a Girl Guide daughter selling GG Cookies (chocolate covered mint biscuits) for $5.00 per box.  I am going over to a meeting at the Chemainus Fire Hall on Thursday evening and if you would like to purchase a box or two to support the Girl Guides of Canada, please let me know.  I can collect your money beforehand at “Soup's On” this Wednesday or you can call me and I will cover the cost and deliver and collect from you at the following “Soup's On” on Oct. 31st.  Please email me at chief11@telus.net with cookies in the subject line.  (I find them very addictive!)

FAC ~ Public Consultation Update

Good morning folks…

The Ferry Advisory Committee Chairs (FACC) met Wednesday October 17th with Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure (MoTI) and Kirk and Co. Consulting.

We were asked to comment on their plans for the upcoming community consultation program.  Most of our comments focused around meeting details, like time of day, venue, which towns etc.

At this time, it appears that the consultation program will address what the community sees as priorities in considering service adjustments, and NO specific service adjustments will be discussed at these meetings.  This was a big surprise to us.  However, this could change, but the feeling we all got was that ‘they’ will stick to this and will not talk about changes to service.  In any event, it is important that community members attend these meeting to see, hear and possibly comment on what is being presented as it could form the basis for future service adjustments.

FYI, MoTI has booked Forbes Hall for Wednesday November 14th, 2012 from 4 to 9 PM…

I will let you know further details as they arise…

Best Regards…

Keith
