Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 7:41PM The Cowichan Land Trust will be offering a Bioengineering Course again this year on Friday and Saturday March 7th & 8th, from 9am to 4pm in Duncan, BC.
The two-day course is aimed at anyone wanting to learn more about ecological restoration options with an emphasis on bioengineering techniques. Soil bioengineering is an applied science that uses live plant materials to perform an engineering function such as slope stabilization, soil erosion control, or seepage control. This two day course will focus on soil bioengineering techniques and options involved in restoration and reclamation of damaged ecosystems using a combination of structural materials, vegetative cuttings and other specialized methods.

Friday, February 21, 2014 at 11:05AM H, I have two requests of the good people of Thetis.
One: I have a grandson and his buddy who are looking for a non working laptop. They are into repairing that kind of thing.
Two: I am looking for someone who has a superior sewing machine. One that is capable of making 2" buttonholes. My sewing machine will only make holes for 1" buttons.
If you can help with either please call me.
Thank you in advance. Gwen Hunter

Friday, February 21, 2014 at 10:57AM Join Pat Johnston for a presentation on Native Plant Gardening at 1:30 on Sunday, February 23 at Forbes Hall. Pat will talk about the benefits of using native plants on our properties, show photographs of native plants, and discuss how to garden with native plants as well as show photographs of native plant gardens. Pat likes to work informally so besides looking at pictures of native plants come prepared to ask questions and discuss the joys of gardening with native plants.
Pat is a Native Plant Gardening Consultant who for the past fourteen years has been helping private and public gardeners incorporate native plants into their landscapes. She has also partnered with Victoria Capital Regional District’s Water Department, Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary and other community organizations to facilitate over 200 Native Plant Gardening Workshops. Pat, along with other gardeners, developed a native plant demonstration garden in her own yard and works in various native plant gardens in the Victoria region. Pat’s passion about our native flora inspires others to want to use them in our gardens.
This workshop is free. Everyone welcome.
Sponsored by the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy.

Friday, February 21, 2014 at 10:47AM The community turnout was very good, considering the short notice given.
Again, we apologize for the short notice however we are planning other meetings very soon.
Thank you Bill Dickie for your initial outline of Options 1 and 2.
Draft Proposal: "Option 3" (Informal)
Very special thanks to Arthur, Dave Knowles for their presentations
Arthur Hunter did a tremendous job, hats off to you Arthur, presenting and fielding questions.
Great work on Arthur and Dave's part in presenting an outline and presentation for the newly created Option 3.
It was obvious that a great deal of time, energy work and commitment went into this newly created proposal.
Although this was an informal information meeting only, the support for the Draft Proposal Option 3 Ferry Schedule appeared to be unanimous.
The next steps will be getting Draft Proposal Option 3 out to the residents and other property owners as soon as possible. There will be notices sent out VIA ESPOKES as well as a system to respond to this Option on line.
We are also hoping for a Phone Survey for those who do not have E-Mail/Computer access.
It is our hope to be able to present this "home grown" Option 3 to BC Ferries and the Government in a timely manner. Hopefully, we will have the community support needed to move it forward.
Please make every effort to respond to notices regarding; OPTION 3 Ferry Schedule as soon as you are able.
Thank you for your support!
