Thanks to the Hall Makeover Heroes!

The Forbes Hall Library Makeover is complete!
And we couldn't of done it without these wonderful people:
Tom Milliken, Chad Kerr, Doug Darling, Tom Anderson, Bill Dickie, Anne-Marie Koeppen (lunch lady), Helen Bird, Jonathan Boyce (painter), Dobson's Paints and Decorating (flooring), Celine Valestrand and a host of helpers
If I have left someone off I apologize.

Celine has a very hard job ahead so we ask that you have patience while she gets the books organized. We will be adding to the library as time goes by so watch out for that happening.
As of Tuesday morning the hall is open again to the general public.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Gloria Taylor
Hall Maintenance
And to you, too, Gloria, for your part in all of this!

Or would you simply like to plant something in the garden to share with the Thetis Community.  Meet at the garden at 2 pm on Saturday, April 5 for a free orientation. We'll be planting some seeds, creating an oyster mushroom bed, and planning our 2014 season. Rumour has it there will be juice and homemade cookies.

Spring Beehive

Reminder of the Beehive, Sewing Bee & Clothing Swap

Location: Forbes Hall on Saturday, March 29th 10am – 4pm

The Beehive is a daylong upcycling clothing event.  Bring ideas for a new creation, or, tart up spring & summer favourites.

If you like, bring clothing or fabric that someone else could use.

This is a good opportunity to share ideas, learn a new sewing skill, pass along unwanted clothing and have fun upcycling something new for your winter or spring wardrobe.

Stay for an hour, stay for the day; come to chat, relax and hang out.

There will be fresh baking, lunch & coffee available to purchase, provided by Don & Nettie.

Not sewing?  Stop by, check out the newly refurbished library, have lunch and a visit.

Bring your sewing machine, and if possible an iron and ironing board as well as an extension cord.

It’s ok to do hand sewing as well!

Everyone is welcome; there is no cost.

BC Ferries Traffic Data

Greetings Folks,

Please click here to view the February 2014 Ferry Traffic Reports, to read a detailed
commentary by Brian Hollingshead, click here.  Not a good month, and Route 20 was
no different with vehicle traffic down 3.41% for the month and barely a
breakeven YTD at +0.55% compared to last year.  Passenger traffic was even
worse, down 8.68% for the month and off 2.34% on a YTD basis compared to
last year.  With only one month left in FY 2014, and no Easter holiday help
there is only a slight chance that our traffic volume will be the same as
last year.

Regards

Keith Rush

Native Plant Workshop

Join native plant gardening specialist, Pat Johnston, for a presentation on Native Plant Gardening at 1:30 on Sunday, April 6 at Forbes Hall.  Pat will talk about the benefits of using native plants on our properties, show photographs of native plants,  discuss how to garden with native plants as well as show photographs of native plant gardens.  Pat likes to work informally so besides looking at pictures of native plants come prepared to ask questions and discuss the joys of gardening with native plants.

Pat  is a Native Plant Gardening Consultant who for the past fourteen years has been helping private and public gardeners incorporate native plants into their landscapes.  She has also partnered with Victoria Capital Regional District’s Water Department, Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary and other community organizations to facilitate over 200 Native Plant Gardening Workshops.  Pat, along with other gardeners, developed a native plant demonstration garden in her own yard and works in various native plant gardens in the Victoria region.  Pat’s passion about our native flora inspires others to want to use them in our gardens.

This workshop is free. Everyone welcome.

Sponsored by the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy.
