An Amazing Moment

Ann looked out the window this morning and said, with a smile, there's a tree on top of the car. I was grateful for the smile, but still thought she might be referring to something that had fallen during the night.

Lo and behold, it was the Christmas tree taken from our car in Duncan on Wednesday evening. I phoned Don Bazinet of the Sally Ann to thank him for holding it and to see if he remembered the good Samaritan's name. Alas, all he could recall was a van and driver whose name perhaps began with an R.

Could this be Ralph or some other R-Elf? Whoever is responsible for this generous act, please know there are two happy campers here at 81 Blue Heron. Thanks for the gesture, and the sneaky delivery.

Bed Chair Cushion Needed

On behalf of Stephanie Cottell  we  are looking for one of those cushions designed to look like the upper part of a chair and is used by people who are confined to bed. This  cushion supports a sitting up position  much like an arm chair which is  a nice change for one who is recuperating and is  spending a lot of time in a prone position.
with thanks in advance

Winter Solstice Celebration

This is a little reminder that Saturday night(Dec 21st) is the Annual
Thetis Island Community Winter Solstice Pot-luck Feast and Celebration at
the Community Centre: Doors open at 5:30pm; Dinner at 6pm; Entertainment
7:30 - 8:45pm (approx.)

Many of you already have tickets, which is great.  There are still a few
tickets left and will be available at the door. There is no charge for
tickets and there will be a little box at the door for donations, which we
very much appreciate :)

We will also have a bin for non-perishable food donations for Harvest House.

Please remember to bring a little card listing the ingredients in your pot
luck contribution - this is really important for folks with food
sensitivities, and if you are in the mood - costumes and sparkles are
greatly encouraged!

We are really looking forward to seeing everyone!

Christmas Tree needs a ride home from Duncan...

ARE YOU GOING TO DUNCAN IN THE NEXT DAY OR SO?

After buying a Christmas tree at Farmer's Market, Gary Geddes and Ann Eriksson were shopping at Thrifty's in Duncan. When they came out laden with too many groceries, someone had 'stolen" the Christmas tree from on top of the Subaru.

While Ann was at the Cowichan Trust meeting, Gary went back to Thrifty's and asked the man and boy manning the Salvation Army donation stand if they'd seen anyone suspicious running off with a tree. No, but their boss had found a Christmas tree in the back of his pick-up and wondered what to do with it. However, it was too late to contact the finder and retrieve the tree as we we aiming for the 8:45 ferry home. Was it a prank or a bungled theft? Someone knows.

If you are going to Duncan and could bring back our tree, the Sally Ann's Christmas Kettle Coordinator Don Bazinet would be glad to meet you at a pre-ordained spot and hand it over. His phone number is 250-732-8722. He needs an hour's advance warning, as he is all over town managing the donations project.

Please let us know if you can do this. The tree cost $30, but the ferry to retrieve it would cost us just about as much. Don't forget to take some string and a bungey cord. We live at 81 Blue Heron, but will be glad to pick it up at your place.

Thanks,
Gary Geddes

To All Community Hall Users ~

The floors have been cleaned and polished, and look wonderful!  Thanks to Ralf Kempe, for organizing and getting this job done!

To keep everything looking great, we ask that everyone removes their outdoor footwear upon entering the hall. Perhaps bring a pair of inside shoes to slip on, at least while the ground is wet through the winter and early spring.

Thanks,

Gloria Taylor
