Denman Island Marine Stewards Presentation ~ tonight

Reminder: You are invited to a 1-hour presentation by the Association of Denman Island Marine Stewards -- sponsored by the Gulf Islands Alliance -- today (Tuesday, Nov. 5) 7.30 p.m. at Forbes Hall. The focus is on the largely unregulated shellfish industry on Denman and what it may eventually mean for Thetis and other Gulf Islands.

Flu Shot Clinic Reminder

A reminder that this year's Flu Shot Clinic on Wednesday  Nov. 6th starts at 9:30 at Forbes Hall and ends just after 11:15 in time to tidy up and rearrange tables and chairs for Soups On.

Please bring your BC Health Care number/ID with you.

As usual, the TIVFD Auxiliary will offer coffee service after you have your inoculation - VIHA asks that you sit around for several minutes after the shot before leaving the hall.

The TIVFD, TIVFD Auxiliary and the Community Fund assist VIHA in making this important yearly service available on Thetis Island.

Remembrance Day Gathering

We are still looking for a little help with the planning of the Remembrance Day Gathering on Monday, November 11th from 10:45 to 11:15 at Forbes Hall.  Nan has offered coffee "afterwards" so we will need a few people to work the kitchen cup washer.  If you are willing to bring biscuits or a cut up cake to share, that would be nice too.  If you wish to share a Remembrance Day story, that would be great.  We will have some time for that.

We have a very short (< 5 min.) video for the 2013 Remembrance Day:  with exclusive war footage used for ceremonies and high school assemblies. A tribute to all Canadian soldiers. Features actual film footage and photos from Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, Dieppe, Ortona, Normandy, Arnhem, Holton, Holland, Belgium, Netherlands, Korea and Afghanistan. Edited by Jonathan Wagner.

We have no cenotaph on Thetis, but at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, and if it is not raining, we will stand in silence at the Forbes Hall flag pole and remember.  You may lay flowers if you wish.

Proposed Nanaimo Incinerator

A huge incinerator is proposed for duke point to burn Vancouver waste. This is a bad idea and will impact the Gulf Islands in a big and negative way as well as central Vancouver Island. Our air quality is already affected by pulp mill emissions. No way that we want the plume from a major incinerator to pollute our air and environment !!

Running Club

Susy Fordham and Ted Bieber will once again be leading a Running Club of students from Capernwray Harbour.  This year, it will happen on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 6:00am.  Our first run will begin Wed, Nov 6th. North Cove Road will be our usual route.

If anyone is interested in further details regarding our running programme, please contact Susy at 246-3158.  Islanders are more than welcome to join!  We are gradually going from walking to running - the Sooke 10K run on April 13, 2014 is our goal.

Exterior Door Wanted

We are looking for an exterior door for Johnny's new Opera House (music studio) ASAP. Free is good but we are willing to pay if needed.

We need a solid - no glass - 36" width with frame and hardware.
