Canadians Can Affect the US Election

US election law permits any American citizen, living anywhere in the world, to vote in his or her last state of residence by absentee ballot, no matter how long they’ve lived abroad or if they have dual citizenship. Approximately 1.8 million eligible American voters living Abroad received ballots in 2020, and Vote from Abroad users logged in from 221 different countries.

In the State of Arizona in 2020 there were 18,435 ballots from Abroad and the State was decided for President Biden by 10,457 votes.

A similar outcome happened in Georgia where there were 18,475 ballots from Abroad and President Biden won by 11,779 votes.

If you are an American or dual citizen, regardless of party affiliation, you can quickly and easily register to vote at: votefromabroad.org

If you aren’t an American citizen, you can still have a positive affect by encouraging all your American friends and relatives, no matter where they live, in the USA or any other country, to register and to vote.

Thank you,

Nan Beals

BINGO Friday: 4 October 7-9pm, Forbes Hall

Early September BINGO did not go well. It turned out to be a very busy time for Islanders.

October, hopefully, is a bit more settled. We also changed the start time to 7:00 pm in response to requests for more time for supper (apparently puffed wheat cake and rice Krispie squares are not considered supper by all...).

Please mark the date on your calendar.

Yard Waste Permits Opening Saturday

We have once again moved from MODERATE to LOW hazard and most of our fire fighters are back on Thetis from holidays etc to respond, so we are opening up the Fire Permit applications to start on 28 September instead of 1 October.

If you have already applied, you do not need to apply again for those three days…we will automatically backdate your permit to 28 Sept.

If you need a Fire Permit for yard waste from 28 Sept to 31 October, go to thetisislandfire.ca and select Fire Permits from the menu on the left-hand side.

Don’t forget to check the Venting Index before you ignite your yard waste piles this weekend. The Index must be GOOD.
