Repair Fair Profile: Peter Luckham - 3D Printing

Join Peter for a description and demonstrations of 3D Printing. Find out how this new technology can be used at home via the internet to repair, improve or even make from scratch common household items.

Many ready-made solutions are available on the internet. Learn how you can access these solutions, how to design them and then to have them printed without owning a 3D printer.

Eggs for a Broody Hen?

Does anyone have any fertilized chicken eggs they would be willing to sell me? I have a hen who is broody right now and I would love to give her a few eggs to try out her mothering skills.

Need Pickup in Nanaimo

Need someone with a truck and trailer or flat-deck to pick up plywood sheets and a 14.5 foot roofing crate in Nanaimo in the next few days. All paid for.

Crate is heavy in the middle so pickup won't work. Weight would be about 750lbs.

An Opportunity...

Howdy Fellow Islanders

My grandsons have brought to my attention an organisation, ShelterHelps.com, that has had many teams from across Canada assisting in El Salvador's reconstruction following the earthquakes of 2011. Since this devastating series of quakes left many thousands of families homeless, Shelter Helps has been constructing homes and training Salvadorians with the skills to construct homes for themselves. Yet having the skills without the funds to purchase the needed materials still leaves thousands without the means to provide a permanent dry home to care for their families. This is where we can help, just $3800 CDN is all that it takes to purchase the needed materials that will provide one family with a dry permanent home for many years to come. Yes indeed $3800 CDN will provide a home in El Salvador.

To get an idea of what $3800 CDN Will do in El Salvador here is a link to a ShelterHelps "Timelapse constructión" in El Salvador

My son Peter, two grandsons, Kai and Zeke and myself along with a team from Sarnia are headed to El Salvador this November. Together the team hopes to finish 20 homes in El Salvador's remote highlands. Should you desire to send words/prayers of encouragement for the recipients of these homes I'd be glad to deliver them for you.

ShelterHelps provides tax deductable receipts for donations. Donations towards the Sarnia team's 20 homes endeavour can be made at

Should you have questions, I'll gladly get together over a coffee, and do my best to find answers.

Thank You to Cemetery Cleanup Crew

Thank you to the great gang of people who showed up for the annual St. Margarets Cemetery clean-up day. Although the rain threatened, it held off and the sun even came out for our picnic lunch. By noon all the grave markers had been washed and tidied up, weed whacking done, ditches cleared, and some landscaping attended too. Many hands make light work.

Special thanks to David Reay for organizing volunteers and food. Thanks to those who shared their special memories of their loved ones and friends who have died. It was an honour to share that space with you. Delighted to have the young ones Livi and Athenia in attendance . They attended to cleaning and weeding with great heart.

The People’s Apothecary Garden - Plant of the Week #9 - Catmint

Not to be confused with its cousin, ‘catnip’ (Nepeta cataria), which is known for driving our feline friends wild, catmint (Nepeta mussinii) is an attractive plant in gardens and for pollinators. Like many other mints, catmint is edible and can be used for medicinal purposes.
