Repair Day Participant - Shawn Sweetapple

Sweetapple Small Engine Repair

Shawn has spent 8 years in the automotive industry and for 13 more years taught high school mechanics. He currently operates a small business in Chemainus focussing on gas engine repairs.

Shawn repairs and services a variety of small engine equipment but will take on other things as well as he is good at tinkering and figuring things out. Simple fixes can likely be done on the spot, but anything else would require him to take equipment home. Advice is always free and with a smile.

St. Margaret's Cemetery Spring Cleanup

Saturday May 25, 10-3

I participate in a number of activities on the Thetis, and I find the cemetery cleanup to be one of the more rewarding events. While I have no personal connections to anyone in the cemetery, they are part of our island heritage. The cemetery is a vault of island history and is the permanent home for many of our forebears. From early settlers and the unmarked graves to recent burials they carry a history of our island and it is important to once a year pay tribute as a community to their lives.

From tidying up headstones, to general landscaping there will be a range of projects to suit everyone's interests and abilities.

Please plan to come by and join us, we encourage everyone to join. If possible, please bring small garden tools for general landscaping and/or scrub brushes and water pails to clean grave markers. We would encourage you to contribute to the picnic lunch, where we will remember and celebrate the lives that came before us.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank You: Ukrainian Fundraising Dinner

Thank you to those who have bought tickets for the Ukrainian Fundraising dinner this Saturday. Six tickets are still available; contact ellenrush@gmail.com if you would like to attend.

To donate or purchase tickets, pay through e-transfer to ellenrush@gmail.com; type WRAP in the memo.

Thank you, as well, to everyone who has so generously donated to this Ukrainian Fundraising initiative.

Direct to Ukraine:

All donations from this event will go to the treasurer of WRAP (Women Refugees Advocacy Project) in Vancouver; they, in turn, will transfer the funds to their companion organization in Halifax (NGO Persons Against Non-State Torture), and that organization will transfer the funds to the bank account of Maria (Democracy Development Centre of Ukraine), located in Ukraine.

She will ensure the money goes to purchase items for those in need such as: power banks for those without electricity, food, water, essential pharmaceuticals, counselling for women who’ve been raped, diapers for young and old, and toys and books for children living in bomb shelters.
