Looking for a Rental for a Week

I am looking for a house or cottage on the water for a week this summer. I love Thetis and, in the past, rented the cottages at Overbury Farm. I would love to re-create that experience for my grandchildren. I am responsible, tidy and considerate of others.

My name is Deborah, and my phone number is 250-857-5034

Coastal Fire Weather Forecast to Monday

Weather Forecast

SYNOPSIS: An unseasonably deep low-pressure system will remain offshore near Haida Gwaii supporting a dry southwesterly flow across most of the Fire Centre on Friday. Showers associated with the low will remain confined to the North Island, Mid Coast, and Haida Gwaii. Instability near the low will support the potential for afternoon thundershowers over Haida Gwaii and the Tweedsmuir Park area. Otherwise, the southern reaches of the Coastal Fire Centre will enjoy a mainly sunny day with moderate inflow winds. Afternoon gusts up to 30-40 km/h can be expected through the Fraser Valley, the Fraser Canyon, and up the Sea-to-Sky corridor. The low will drift south overnight tonight bringing with it increased cloud cover and showers by Friday morning. Bands of showers drifting in from the east will affect mainland zones on Friday with a big downturn in fire weather indices. Showers will be spottier over the Island Friday and primarily confined to the ridge tops. All zones will experience cooler, more humid conditions on Friday.

Saturday to Monday: A ridge of high pressure will build over the North Coast beginning Saturday while the low drifts further south into Oregon. Northern reaches of the Fire Centre including Haida Gwaii and the Mid-Coast will be the first to warm and dry. Showers will linger over inland sections of the Fraser and Pemberton Zones Saturday before clearing on Sunday. The ridge will allow temperatures to gradually return to seasonal temperatures (highs in the mid 20’s) by Monday. The pattern will remain inflow through the period, preventing relative humidities from dropping much below 30%.

2025 Property Taxes Due July 2

Your 2025 Property Taxes are due on July 2, 2025. Over-all my total property taxes have not changed from 2024 because my assessed value declined which offset mill rate increases.

However when you look at the details, CVRD Electoral Area G taxes rose 10% primarily due to a 47% increase in Regional Recreation funding. Remember, Regional Recreation funding was phased in over 3 years starting at $6.08/$100,000 assessed residential value in 2023. 2025 is the last year for the phase-in and should have been $6.08(3) = $18.24/$100,000 assessed value. 2025 actual Recreation Funding is $22.76/$100,000 assessed value. That’s a lot more than the phase-in formula and I wouldn’t be surprised if the cost increases continue with the aging recreation facilities. Remember too, that Thetis Island residents use the recreation facilities proportionally less than other CVRD residents.

A new concern is that North Cowichan has been providing lower rates to users of the Fuller Lake Arena compared to the other CVRD arenas. North Cowichan is only now considering increasing the user fees phased in over the next 3 years. This means we are covering these lower fees. How's that Fair Play, Fair Pay for taxpayers?

Other Local Services that we pay for such as Thetis Island Improvement District, Islands Trust, and Cowichan Valley Hospital showed minor year-to-year changes.

Seeking ride to Nanaimo on Friday, 20 June

Hello, I'm seeking a ride to Nanaimo on Friday, 20 June. I'm aiming to catch the 11am Hullo ferry and plan to catch 8:55am ferry from Thetis. I'm happy to be dropped off wherever is convenient in Nanaimo and make my way the rest of the way to the Hullo ferry terminal.

I'll have a rucksack and smaller backpack with me and I'm happy to help pay for gas.

If you can help, let me know by getting in touch. Sahir - advani.sahir@gmail.comor 778-223-6647.

Thanks!

Quiet Summer Solstice Evening

Hello everyone,

After a lovely community event last week I felt called to offer a quiet evening guided meditation and evening of the crystal bowls, and a sound journey for rest and relaxation.

Janice and I usually do this together, however she is healing and I want to support anyone who wish to feel into their heart with peace and love being radiated out to the greater world and into ourselves.

It is simply by donation, everyone welcome, bring blankets to make a comfy nest to rest into. We always finish with tea and goodies to bring you back to earth. There will be crystals, chimes a flute and a bit of a heartbeat drum to take you into yourself. You can bring an eye cover to go deeper within.

Saturday, June 21st 7-9 pm. Forbes Hall, come any time after 6:30, will start at 7.

Questions please text Dawn at 250-210-0826.

Warmly,

Dawn Gordon
