Needed...

Would anyone be using Basaglar insulin & have 2 or 3 empty vials that I could get from them or when they are finished their next ones please?

No rush as I reuse them but only have 1 of the old ones left. Change of insulin and new vials don't fit in a half cc pen. TIA.

Voting Insight

The Cowichan riding has been represented by either New Democrats or Conservative/Reform members since World War II. The choice of who wins this riding is either the NDP or the Conservative candidate. There are many valid reasons to vote for other parties, and if we had proportional representation those votes would count. However, if you wish your vote to elect a member of Parliament, it will be either the NDP or the Conservative candidate.

Candidates Statements

Dear eSPOKES readers:

Below are the statements (and website links) of the candidates running for the Cowichan-Malahat-Langford riding (which includes Thetis Island): Alistair MacGregor (NDP, the incumbent), Kathleen Code (Green Party), Jeff Kibble (Conservative Party). A statement from the Liberal Party candidate (Blair Herbert) can be found in yesterday’s e-Spokes.

Statements for all four candidates are about the same word length (please see their websites for more information). E-Spokes has not altered the candidate’s statements, nor do we endorse any specific candidate. (Please see eSPOKES guidelines regarding election posts immediately below the candidates’ statements.)

Alistair MacGregor (NDP) <https://alistairmacgregor2025.ndp.ca/>

The Cowichan Valley has been my home for 35 years, and I’m now raising my family here on a small farming property. It has been a huge honour serving as the Member of Parliament for Cowichan-Malahat-Langford since 2015, having been re-elected in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections. I’ve served as the NDP Caucus Chair, Critics for Justice, Public Safety, Food Price Inflation and Agriculture and Agri-Food. I was also the Vice-Chair of the Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying. During my time in the House of Commons, I’ve been the proud sponsor of several bills, including a national soil conservation strategy, a national brain injury strategy, and a national food cooperative strategy.

I’m running because I believe strongly that our riding needs a representative who will stand up for our workers and small businesses and against the corporate welfare and deference and we have seen for decades from both Liberal and Conservative governments. In Cowichan Malahat Langford it is a two-way race between the NDP and the Conservatives. In this time of great uncertainty, I am the one candidate who offers voters a solid 9-year track record of standing up for our riding as Member of Parliament and can hit the ground running, able to get to work right away on defending our healthcare and our communities in the face of the from Donald Trump.

On April 28, vote for me, Alistair MacGregor.

Kathleen Code (Green Party) <https://www.greenparty.ca/en/candidate/kathleen-code>

These are tough times for us as Canadians, but first and foremost, I want you to know that I am a proud Canadian. We live in an amazing country, populated by a great diversity of peoples and a stunning environment.

Sure, things are not perfect – we can and must do better and I believe that as the Green Party of Canada, we can champion those things that are critical to our well-being and prosperity. Now, American tariffs are threatening our way of life and our democracy seems more fragile than ever. We must be able to face these challenges with strength, unity and determination. It is critical that the Green Party of Canada engage strong candidates who believe in representing their constituents based on social justice and environmental values.

It has always been in my nature to serve my community and over the years, I have been involved in many community organizations, often taking a leading role. In 2017, after 21 years of service, I retired from the BC Government as an economic development policy analyst, gaining skills and experience in policy analysis, communications, project management, strategic thinking and program implementation. Best of all, I learned how government works, an invaluable insight for anyone wanting to serve in government. I have been able to use these skills effectively to serve my community.

Jeff Kibble < https://www.cmlconservatives.ca/>

Jeff Kibble is an esteemed leader known for his exceptional skills, integrity, and dedication to service. With 28 years of distinguished service in the Royal Canadian Navy, he has become a results-driven leader with substantial experience in humanitarian missions and strategic operations. He is renowned for his calm demeanor under pressure and his ability to make decisive decisions prioritizing the mission and the welfare of others. His leadership style embodies collaboration and empathy, earning him respect within his community. Through consistent engagement and attentive listening to his constituents' needs, Jeff has fostered a strong sense of trust and loyalty.

Jeff's strong leadership, strategic vision, and resilience enable him to excel in high-pressure situations. His effective communication and relationship-building skills have been pivotal to his success. His character is defined by integrity, compassion, and a commitment to making a positive impact.

Having resided in the riding for the past 14 years, Jeff is deeply connected to the community he seeks to represent. He has dedicated time to volunteering with various veteran and charitable organizations, including the Wounded Warrior Run BC. He actively supports mental health research and raises awareness about the challenges faced by veterans. At the core of Jeff's leadership lies a strong family foundation. He and his wife Angel are parents to young adult children, reflecting principles of unity and compassion.

Repair Fair Profile: Clothing Repairs

Currently our culture is known for its disposable fashion. Buy something, wear it a while and then move it along, often to the landfill. That is not the culture on Thetis Island, we expect our clothes to last. We are looking for quality in what we buy and when our clothes tear or zippers break, we want to repair them.

At our Repair Fair we have assembled a talented group of clothing repair MacGyvers to help you with your clothing fixes:  Visible Mending  Zipper repairs  Darning (socks) Knitting repairs

Bring your clothes and they will share their knowledge and skills on restoring your wardrobe. Sometimes items may be beyond repair and the MacGyvers will provide information and opportunities for repurposing.

Look through your closet and bring your favourite clothes back to life.

The Repair Fair is Saturday May 3rd, from 10-2 pm at Forbes Hall.

See you there!

The Repair Fair is organized by the Community Climate Resilience Group.

Celebrate National Volunteer Week 2025 - April 27 to May 3

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is a time to celebrate and thank Canada’s 24 million volunteers, including Thetis Island, without whom so many of Canada’s organizations and programs would not be able to function.

Thanking volunteers for your efforts is not a one time, once a year event so THANK YOU to all volunteers for your constant gift of time and valued efforts! Thetis Island is shining example of how things get done by volunteers. You are engaged in one time, sometime, part time and ongoing efforts supporting our many island groups and organizations.

The theme for National Volunteer Week 2025 is Volunteers Make Waves. It highlights the power, impact and importance of individual and collective volunteer efforts here on Thetis Island and across Canada. Like a wave, volunteering is movement building.Water is in constant motion, always flowing, shifting, and transforming with every powerful wave or quiet ripple. And so is each volunteer’s contribution toward creating impact in our community here on Thetis. Each individual volunteer contribution, big or small, creates momentum and has the power to influence and inspire, joining a wave of positive change.

Looking forward to a planned gathering in September. An invitation to celebrate all things volunteer. More details to follow.

And once again

Thank you

Anne-Marie

begin each day with an attitude of gratitude
