Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 8:08AM Join us this Saturday to get the Hall and grounds ready for Summer!
Work starts at 9:30. It’s okay if you come a bit later.
A light lunch has been planned to thank the wonderful volunteers.
Saturday’s Job List:
· Weeding and Trimming: lots of small areas to be worked on.
· Spreading new mulch on the garden beds
· Other jobs both inside and outside, there is something for everyone!
Here’s an equipment list that may be helpful: gloves, secateurs, shovels, trowels, wheelbarrows (we have 1, and will need more for the bark mulch), rakes, an extra weed eater and appropriate safety gear.
Thanks,
TICA Board

Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 8:06AM We have not had the moisture we were counting on to stay at MODERATE hazard, and the fire weather stations around us are all now reporting at HIGH hazard and Thetis Island has moved up to HIGH.
Therefore, on Thursday this week we will start restricting High Hazard Activities. Cease all High Hazard Activities before 1 p.m. and post a two-hour fire watch. Have water close by your work site.
Please report any daytime smoke columns to 911.
Evening campfires are still permitted at this time. Don’t have a campfire in windy conditions and make sure there are no embers left when you leave. The ashes must be cold and wet.

Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 8:04AM Hi neighbours,
Thank you to everyone who supports our Returnables Program - your contributions make a real difference for our nature conservancy!
We wanted to take a moment to clarify what our beverage returnables program is able to accept, as we know it can sometimes be confusing.
We DO accept:
Empty beverage containers (cans, bottles, etc.)
We do NOT accept:
Broken drinking glasses or damaged kitchenware.
Creamers, soups, etc.
Glass food containers (such as olive jars, pickle jars, or similar)
Everyday household recycling
Items that don't qualify should be disposed of through your regular waste stream or recycling. If you're ever unsure whether an item qualifies, feel free to reach out to us at info@thetisislandnatureconservancy.org before dropping it off.
Did You Know? - You Can Donate Your Refund Directly to ThINC
If you prefer to drop your returnables off at a Return It location yourself, you can still donate your refund directly to ThINC!
Using the Return It Express app: Visit <https://www.return-it.ca/app/donation-details/>; and simply choose Thetis Island Nature Conservancy as the recipient of a one-time or automatic recurring donation.
Using a Return It depot with a label kiosk? The number to use is 250-246-8176
Every bottle and can adds up - thank you so much for your continued support!

Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 8:03AM I’m reposting this ad because I didn’t include a way for anyone to respond to me, which sort of defeats the whole thing! Once more, with feeling:
We live on Hudson Island. We’re looking for a person or a few individuals who might want to come over and help us with some yard work and clean up.
Nothing too complicated or too over strenuous.
Dates to be determined as our schedule is in flux at the moment but will be sometime in the next few weeks and into June.
A boat for transport to Hudson would be nice (I can pay for gas), but not mandatory- I can come pick you up at the Pub or Guvvie.
$25-$30/hr
Thanks for considering,
Nick

Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 12:52PM While one dose of the vaccine during viral respiratory illness season in the fall and winter offers strong protection for most people, an additional spring dose is strongly recommended for people who could get seriously sick, including:
• Adults 80 years and older
• Indigenous adults 70 years and older
• Residents of long-term care homes and assisted living facilities and those awaiting placement
• People 6 months and older who have been diagnosed as clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV 1 or CEV 2)
The following people may also benefit from a spring COVID-19 booster:
• Adults 65 years and older
• Indigenous adults 55 years and older
Individual invitations for vaccines are being sent out currently to those 65 years or older who are registered in the Get Vaccinated system.
