Need Glasses Picked Up, Dropped Off in Duncan

Hi

I need two pairs of glasses picked up at Station Street Eyecare in Duncan (177 Station Street), on Friday and one pair taken there as well.

If you happen to be going to Duncan and can do this for me, that would be wonderful.
Please let me know by text 250-210-3087 or call our new land line # at 250-246-3457.
I will meet you at the ferry with the glasses that are here.

Thank you

Thank You

It is with bittersweet emotions that I am sharing with this community my intent to retire from the Thetis Island Post Office at the end of September.

It has been a complete joy and so rewarding to serve each and every one of you for the past couple of years. I got to know some of you better in so many ways.

This earth soul/garden fairy wants to be outdoors in nature with my hands in the soil and dirt under my fingernails and growing food.

Thank you one and all for this experience and memories made at the Post Office.
I look forward to seeing you at future Island social events and on the road in passing.

Liesbeth

Knitting-Craft Bee

It’s that time again to start those Knitting and craft projects. The Knitting-Craft Bee will start up again Friday 26th September, in the Library at the Community Centre 2 pm thru 4 pm.

We are looking forward to seeing all the regulars and hoping for some newcomers to join us. We really enjoy seeing new projects and different crafts. Our tea and scrumptious treats will again be made by our Gloria she always has something tempting for us to try.

Everyone welcome.

Scrap Metal

Wondering what to do with that little pile of scrap metal or those exhausted old woodstoves?

I am hauling weekly loads of scrap cars to Cassidy and usually have plenty of room for extra scrap metals. Save yourself the trip and text me to drop off what you have at my place. I don't pay for scrap metal, and I don't charge to get rid of it.

Lion’s Mane Jellyfish info for Dog Owners

The season for Lion’s Mane jellyfish (Cyanea capillata) on Southern Vancouver Island’s east coast is primarily in late summer and early fall, from around August through mid-to-late September. This is when the jellyfish are most likely to wash ashore dead, making encounters on beaches more likely.

Humans can be injured by the toxins in the dead stingers (pain that can last for weeks) but the toxins can cause even more serious health problems in dogs, including severe muscle cramps and potentially deadly breathing issues. Other symptoms include vomiting, swelling, lethargy and drooling.

If your dog, like most dogs, curiously pokes at a dead Lion’s Mane on a beach walk and gets the jelly on its paws or legs or wherever, immediately rinse off with sea water (NOT fresh water) and seek veterinary care as soon as possible.

2026 Thetis Island Calendar Submissions

The Thetis Island Calendar will be produced once again!

For the 2026 edition, we’re looking for photos of native and naturalized flora and fauna, both aquatic and terrestrial, plus iconic geology. However, as in the past, we welcome all photos of Thetis.

Cut off for submissions is September 20, 2025.

Only photos 1.4 mb and larger will be considered, and submissions are limited to 8 photos per photographer.

The top 14 images will be chosen for the calendar, with another 20 being chosen for the gallery at the hall (these may be used for notecards). All selected images will be used with photographer’s credit included.

Upon submission of your photograph, you are allowing TICA to use it for the mentioned purposes, and for editing to be done correcting for use and printing.

The photographers of the chosen 34 photographs will be contacted that their photo has been chosen for either the calendar or the gallery.

Photos do not need to be taken in 2025.

Please submit photos to
info@forbeshall.ca by September 20, 2025.

Thank you in advance for supporting this fundraiser with your photographs!
