Tai Chi

Tai Chi classes will be starting again at the beginning of October. I would like to know how many would be interested in a beginners/intro class, if enough people are interested there would be a class for beginners followed by a Foundation/continuing class for those
who have been through a beginners class.

I would appreciate it if you would email me and let me know - sowerby@seaside.net

Thanks
Carol

ThINC Nature House: Tell us how we did!

Sunday was the last day of the summer 2023 Nature House program. Over the course of eight weeks, we hosted 50+ events! We had speakers from on and off island who spoke on a wide variety of topics from grizzly bears and kelp to solar power and coastal archaeology; engaged in action-filled activities - bouldering and kayaking; explored diverse topics with local experts about soils, medicinal plants, grafting, and sustainable living; tried our hand (and mind!) at nature inspired crafts and arts; and connected with our mini underwater ecosystem - and drama-loaded Thetis Island soap opera, the seaquarium.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our programs and to all of our volunteers and guest speakers who made the Nature House program extra special. Also, this summer would not have been possible without our two fantastic summer employees, Eden and Erica.

Furthermore, thanks once again to the Porter family for sharing their amazing space with us, to Carolyn Askew for her continued support of the PAG, to the Challenger and Sarioglu families for the amazing seaquarium, and to the Community Fund, the Government of Canada, the Government of BC, and to all of our members and Friends of the Nature House!

As we are always looking to grow and improve our program, please take a few minutes and fill out this short feedback form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeN3f5N3y5K9JdFFl2KRsRD9UYPNa2Eev5t_Ro1cJvr7GFzTQ/viewform

BC Cancer Society Stamps

I would again like the thank all the thoughtful people who have taken the time to collect used postage stamps for the BC Cancer Society.

Many of you have used the drop box at the mail pick up area, and on occasion some have brought the stamps to my table at the summer market. This coming Saturday will be the last day I will be at the outdoor market for this season.

The collection box will continue to be at the mail pick up area all year.

Looking forward to your continued support for this worthy cause.

Thank you,

Terry

Suspicious Activity Neighbourhood Watch

Report all suspicious activity And precautions.

Thank you to everyone posting re suspicious activity on the water after dark and possibly related thefts. Please keep posting. Also please continue report ALL suspicious activity to the RCMP non-emergency line as you witness these things.

Relatively inexpensive solar/motion sensor lights may be helpful . Hardened steel chain locks are also available. Sad it may need to come to this, but here we are. Let’s keep an eye out and an ear to the grounds.

Police have fingerprints and DNA from the break in a couple of weeks ago at our store and we have some pretty clear images.

If anyone is interested, I’m happy to send a still photo that shows the nose and face and chin of one of the intruders. The older one. If anyone recognizes please phone the Ladysmith police.

Stolen Battery - Denouement

Since I posted the notice on e-spokes about my missing battery I have had several calls and texts of support and commiseration, including two offers of a replacement battery, one of which I reluctantly but thankfully accepted.

Thetis is truly a remarkable place, made better only by the people who make it their home.

Thanks again, one and all!
Ken H
PS: I donated the unclaimed $20 to an on-island charity.

Acknowledgement

We are deeply grateful for the amazing care received by our daughter Alina who broke her arm. It includes everyone from the Thetis Island first responders (TIVFD) all the way to the Cowichan District Hospital’s emergency, pediatric and orthopedic departments.

Thank you all for your outstanding, professional and friendly care.
