Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 6:54AM To give some more detail - the link to the BC website is the original application regarding AQUACULTURE/SHELLFISH Location: Preedy Harbour, Thetis Island. The PDF's at the bottom have more detailed info.

Why do - by principle - provincial and federal jurisdiction decide over local affairs? No matter of crown land or not it is an issue which effect locals and not someone sitting in an office somewhere applying any kind of rules and regulations. Thetis Islander should vote what happens in front of their 'door step'.
EVERY 'harvest' of any natural resources in Canada from marine to forest, mining, oil/gas etc. - doesn't matter what - end up with a bill to the taxpayer for recovery. This system was and is a version of how to continue and destroy the environment.
Where are our local political representatives and trustees??

Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 6:54AM To encourage residents to make their views known, posting the contacts to whom those views are to be sent would be helpful.
Also, a short three or four paragraph (executive?) summary along the lines of Norm Kasting’s posting would be very informative to those of us not resident on but well invested in the island.

Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 7:47AM I reiterate the message yesterday from Chris that we do not want an aquaculture industry operating in Preedy Harbour. Since the area was made into a Rockfish Preserve 20 years ago there has been a noticeable increase in sea life as many will have noticed; herring, sea lions, orcas, and humpbacks have all been making a recovery in Preedy harbour. An aquaculture enterprise that involves PVC pipe, predator nets, and marker buoys, covering many hectares of sea floor disrupting the local ecosystem , is a bad idea on many levels. Not to mention that all approvals by both Provincial and Federal Regulators were given without any meaningful local input or even notification is cause for concern. As witnessed with the anchorages of tankers surrounding our island, once permission is granted it is virtually impossible to have any meaningful input into what happens after the fact. Also witness what happens when companies go bankrupt or are sold (as seen with orphan oil wells in Alberta) as the companies abandon any responsibility for cleaning up, the taxpayer assumes the cost).
If you care about our local environment, please make your opinion known to the appropriate authorities.

Friday, October 20, 2023 at 6:57AM Please, (if you have not already) communicate in writing with our Islands trust’s representatives about your sentiments on this type of industrialization happening here.
Please write, post, call islands trust, and our local member of parliament as it may be the only real, united forum or format for the community to actually speak to this issue.
Thank you.
