Monday, August 21, 2023 at 8:50AM Mohamed (Mo) Osman, the pharmacist from Rexall on Esplanade in Chemainus, has kindly agreed to come to Thetis on Sept 30th and give Tetanus and/or Shingles vaccines.
You are eligible for a tetanus booster if your last shot was 5 to 10 years ago. Tetanus is covered by BC Medical Services.
You are eligible for the Shingles vaccine (which is usually not covered by BC Medical Services) if:
1. You have never had the vaccine.
2. You had the older version of the vaccine (it was a one dose vaccine).
If you have had shingles, you may still be eligible for the vaccine - talk to Mo when you call. Note the Shingles vaccine is now a two-dose vaccine with the second dose given 2 - 6 months after the first.
TO REGISTER: Call Mo at 250 246 2151 with your PHN number to sign up, OR you can email him at 7114rx@rexall.ca .
If you have any questions including whether you are eligible for these vaccines, please direct them to Mo.

Monday, August 21, 2023 at 8:49AM It’s the last week of the Nature House Program! Make sure to come out to one (or more) of our final events of the summer - basket weaving, owl house building, documentary screening, project designing, and harvesting. We will also be saying goodbye to our marine ambassadors and could use a (gentle) hand bringing them back to their coastal homes.
This Saturday at Howling Wolf Market will also be the last opportunity of the summer to pick up one of our fancy ThINC shirts, so if you’ve been ThINCing of grabbing one, now is the time!
And this week's list of events, include:
Wednesday, August 23
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm drop-in Harvest Hours at The PAG (all ages)
Thursday, August 24

6:30 pm start ThINC Tank: Screening: TBD (Kiss the Ground (2020) OR Gather (2020)) (youth, adults)

Monday, August 21, 2023 at 8:48AM Found $20.00 on my walk today. Two couples ahead of me-looked for them but didn't find them.
If you lost the money, tell me where and I will return it to you.

Monday, August 21, 2023 at 8:47AM We just wanted to take a moment to say how much we appreciate ALL of you!
Farming is tough at the best of times, and I'm sure you can all appreciate the additional challenges of drought and the mosquito plague.
At the beginning of market each week as we will fill the tables with the fresh harvest - while we may be tired and frantic- we are also giddy with excitement as we get ready to share all the food we've grown.
We appreciate that you show up each week, share your stories, and help to shape ours by giving your support and great feedback and ideas.
Thank you from Jollity Farmers

Monday, August 21, 2023 at 8:46AM Our order form is updated with the latest fresh harvest list, although it sometimes changes through the week.
Local dairy and organic baking orders due by Monday at 5pm.
Marinas will be stocked up mid-week with lots more fresh fruit, veggies and eggs.

Sunday, August 20, 2023 at 7:47AM OUTLOOK: Sunday to Tuesday: Sunday will be sunny and very warm as a sharp surface thermal trough lies over Vancouver Island. Moderate outflow winds will persist along the Mainland. Likely smoky on Sunday with the outflow continuing. Highs will be in the low 30’s with minimum RHs in the upper teens and 20s. Likely only fair recoveries on Sunday morning. No lightning forecast.Monday will still be mainly sunny and warm in the south. But the pattern starts to change as a deep upper low swings down from Haida Gwaii towards northern Vancouver Island. The airmass will become unstable and isolated showers or thundershowers will develop in the afternoon. Winds will switch from N-NE outflow to a SW inflow late in the day. On Tuesday the upper low gets closer to the Island and more widespread showers develop, possibly reaching the far southern zones. Still a risk for embedded lightning. Cooling to seasonal temps with inflow winds; much higher RHs

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Seaquarium Drop-in
Location: The Nature House at The Portal, 254 North Cove Road
The saga continues in the seaquarium this week, and it’s your last chance to see the drama unfold! We’ll be releasing the species next week, so come by this Saturday to check on our very hungry and growing heart crab, the neon nudibranchs, and (my favourite!) the elusive green gunnels.
Sunday, August 20
10:00 am start
Healing Plant Connections With Marcia & Ian (all ages)
Location: The People’s Apothecary Garden, Lot 62
Immerse yourself in the tranquil embrace of nature as we explore the profound relationship between humans and plants at the Peoples Apothecary Garden, delving into the spiritual and holistic dimensions that bind us. Marcia and Ian have created a deck of cards with mediations & visualizations that correspond to different plants & animals on Thetis Island which they have created a workshop based on.
For those who are not able to attend the event and are interested in exploring these cards, a deck can now be found at the Thetis Island library!
2:00 pm start
S4: Cultural Ecology Talk and Indigenous Plant Walk (all ages)
Location: Telegraph Marina
Join us for a special walk and talk with Ken Thomas and Elder Augie Sylvester from the Penelakut Tribe to explore the cultural history of what is now called Thetis Island. Guided by Augie, we will also meander to The Cut and learn about the abundance of medicinal and other culturally important plants that grow on the island.
This event is hosted by the Nature House and Nature Stewards Program with funding from the Island Trust Conservancy.
Howling Wolf Market - As always, we will be under our blue tent at the market this Saturday from 10 - 2pm. We will be taking t-shirt orders until August 25th!
Questions? Get in touch with our Nature House Coordinator, Eden Luymes at eden@thetisislandnatureconservancy.org
Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 7:58AM The cool, quiet library will be open Saturday from 10-1. New materials are on display.

Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 7:58AM Hello Thetis Islanders,
Has anyone found a small, foldable anchor off North Cove beach? It was lost last week (~Thurs). During low tide we went looking for it, but of course found nothing.
If you found it, please call Remy at 250 246 3469.
Thanks!
