Quarterly Deadline - Earlier than usual!

Because we are launching into the new project of producing the digital version of the Quarterly as well as the print one, we are asking that people aim for MAY 1st to send in their stories, notices, reports, ads, etc., or at least let us know that it's coming. Since the digital version will be in colour, would those who have ads in the Q please send us their originals (or new ones) in colour? All links for email and websites will also be clickable unless you tell us otherwise.

Also, we have sent out duplicate invoices for last year's ads to a lot of people who didn't respond to the first mailing. If you didn't get an invoice, it may be landing in your spam folder? Anyway, please let me know, because if the payment hasn't come in, the ads won't go in.  And we really appreciate the ads!

Anchorages Concern Thetis

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority invites complaints from citizens disturbed by anchorage noises and lights. The 'concern' is passed on to the ship master, often followed by positive action.

Several people voiced concerns yesterday over 'maintenance' hammering from a parked ocean-going vessel that had swung within 800 metres of Thetis' eastern shore.

Ship names, identified by sight or using an on-line 'vesselfinder' app, are required in contacting the port authority at: https://www.portvancouver.com/southern-b-c-anchorage-noise-and-light-concerns/

April 10th: National Wildlife Week

In 1947, the Canadian Government declared the week of April 10th as National Wildlife Week to encourage Canadians to learn more about wildlife and the places they call home. The week was originally recognized on the birthday, April 10th, of Canadian conservationist Jack Miner who determined the migratory paths of North American bird species and helped save the Canada Goose from the brink of extinction.

Thetis Island is a part of the Coastal Douglas-fir Biogeoclimatic Zone (CDF) which is one of British Columbia’s smallest and most biodiverse zones, but also one that is most at risk. Several species that call Thetis Island ‘home’ are considered at risk of disappearing unless we take action to help protect, restore, and preserve their habitats.

To learn about plant and animal species currently ‘at risk’ on Thetis according to Canada’s Species at Risk Act, please follow this link: https://www.thetisislandnatureconservancy.org/single-post/april-10th-national-wildlife-week
