Reminder: Forbes Hall Library

Each week there are scheduled times when a volunteer library attendant is on duty.
We look forward to having you join us, we’re there to answer questions, talk about ideas, and generally there to help you out, if needed.  On Sundays we offer tea and goodies – a happy place to meet for a chat with fellow island bibliophiles.

Hours:

  • Saturday 10:00 am until 1:00 pm
  • Sunday 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm
  • Monday 10:00 am until 1:00 pm
  • Wednesday 10:00 am until 1:00 pm

The library is always open after 10:00 am when there is a Community Activity at the hall and the entry door is open.  We have a simple honour system for signing out books and DVDs, instructions are at the sign out desk.  If you need help, ask the attendant on duty.  For returns when the building is closed, please use the drop box by the Courtside Entrance.

We hope you enjoy our lovely little island library.
Celine,
your volunteer librarian

What's NOT Fresh @ Jollity Farm?

Ha ha, lots!

Seriously though... the snow and cold weather have squashed field crops and greenhouses are chilly, so there isn't a lot to harvest!

We are still open today 10-1pm for some of the usual suspects.
The chickens are happy the days are getting longer, so lots of free-range eggs this week.

We are looking forward to spring, are you?

With thanks,
Jollity Farmers

Nurse Practitioner Meet & Greet: Tuesday, March 7th at Forbes Hall 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

Come and meet Thetis Island’s Nurse-Practitioner, Erin VanWieren, with Social Worker, Marcela Mrnka, and Community Paramedic, Vinh Pham, on Tuesday, March 7th at Forbes Hall from 11am – 12:30pm.

As we get ready for Island Health opening Primary Care on Thetis Island, we think it is time for you to meet Erin and her associates.  Come and find out about the services that will become available, and current services that will be more accessible by having Primary Care on island. Take a quick look at the Care Station and its equipment – getting ready for Thetis Island’s first patients!

The Nurse Practitioner will not only be available to her assigned Thetis Island patients but will be available for urgent and emergent care when on-site.

Coffee, Tea and Muffins provided by Forbes Hall Food Services volunteers.

Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday,

Forbes Hall Health Services Group

COVID BIvalent Vaccine Clinic Changes and Eligibilty

The February 26th Vaccine Clinic was postponed due to snow, and will now be held on Sunday, March 12th.

All clients from both dates are currently booked for an extended clinic on March 12th.  Appointments times will be sent out March 6 – 8 next week.

Currently, BCCDC advises 6 months between vaccines, however, there are some exceptions due to personal health concerns and travel.  Please contact your Pharmacist or your Primary Care Provider to determine if any of these exceptions apply in your circumstance.   If your last vaccine (either bivalent or non-bivalent) was prior to September 12, 2022, you are eligible for the March 12, 2023 vaccine date.

For more information regarding eligibility: http://www.bccdc.ca/resource-gallery/Documents/Guidelines%20and%20Forms/Guidelines%20and%20Manuals/Epid/CD%20Manual/Chapter%202%20-%20Imms/Part4/COVID-19-vaccine-eligibility.pdf

Thanks to a Responsible Driver

I would like to thank the driver on North Cove Road Thursday morning who drove by me and my dog at a high speed but later came back to apologize.

As all walkers know, there are no shoulders on our roads at the best of times, but now with the snow, there is nowhere for a pedestrian with a dog or a child to go when a car drives by. The driver stopped by on his way home and apologized. I thanked him and appreciated his recognition of the danger he had put us in.

With very few exceptions, there are no reasons to be driving quickly on our island. I would ask all drivers to slow down when they see people walking with a dog, a child or just by themselves.

Re Cycling

The free Tour de Thetis bicycle ride is on for tomorrow (Saturday) starting at 9 a.m. and finishing at 11 a.m. from the community centre.

Cyclists of all ages, genders, and fitness levels, including e-bikers, are welcome. It's definitely not a race.

Highlight is the brief social get-together at the end featuring Fred's famous cookies.

Fix Generac Generator

Looking to hire someone that knows how to fix Generac generators. We have an 8kw unit that doesn’t want to start.

My uneducated guess is it’s not getting propane but why I don’t know.

Wanted: iPhone 6

In need of an iPhone 6 does not need to be operational.

The glass screen on mine is shattered after it fell from the counter onto a tile floor.  I just replaced the battery and I like my phone. Hoping I can just replace the glass screen on mine by a skilled technician.

Please email me at: growmorefood@protonmail.com

Respectfully

Liesbeth
