Fire Department Training Friday

The TIVFD and the TIVFD Water Auxiliary Team will be operating the Water Tender vehicle on Friday between Hunters’ Pond and Forbes Road.

This training exercise will be used to fill the new 5,000-gallon tank on Forbes Road near the Overbury corner with pond water.

Please be cautious when approaching/passing the crew and vehicle and obey any traffic control directions.  We are concerned about our safety and your safety on our roads as the water is being drafted, shuttled and dropped.

Thank you ---

Fire Chief J. Caldbeck
Thetis Island Vol. Fire Dept.

Tour de Thetis Bicycle Rides

The regular Tour de Thetis bicycle rides are continuing through the winter, on the first and third Saturdays of each month. The 30 km route (short-cuts permitted) starts just after 9 a.m. and finishes at 11 a.m. at the community hall.

Everyone, including e-cyclists, is invited. It's free, not a race. It's for fun and fitness and, of course, Fred's famous cookies.

The tour isn't held in snow or heavier rain. The next one is tomorrow (Saturday).

For more, call Dave Steen at 250 246 3530.

Wanted: Short-term Goat Boarding

We’re looking for a small-fenced area with shelter for 2 little fainting goats. We need it only into late February/March as we need the time to do some fencing on our own property.  We would provide them with all hay and feed needed plus a boarding fee for your trouble.  They are very small, well behaved and not climbers.

If you might be able to help us we’d be most appreciative!
Please just give us a call at 250-246-1965 or email us at shirlnmike@hotmail.com
Thanks so much…Shirlee and Mike Harris

Workforce Housing Strategy for the Cowichan Region

The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is developing a Workforce Housing Strategy for the Cowichan region. Economic Development Cowichan is leading the work with support from Cowichan Housing Association. The goal of the project is to come up with actions for increasing housing availability and affordability for the labour force.

We’re hosting a series of workshops to discuss current workforce housing issues and opportunities, where we want to be in the future, and how we want to get there. These discussions will help the project team develop a vision and framework for the next step in the process: the solutions. Specific workshops are being held for employers, workers, builders & developers, service providers, local government, and the public. The workshops will take place virtually between January 30 and February 8, 2023.

I’m reaching out today to ask for your help in spreading the word about this important engagement opportunity. In particular, if you know of any employees or workers who have experienced issues finding and/or affording housing, we would appreciate you sharing this information with them.

General outreach is also appreciated. Here are some pieces for easy sharing:

UPDATE: House Now Being Moved Thursday Jan. 19th

My apologies to everyone for the continual date changes on the house move. Nickel Bros has now moved it to Jan 19th. I wouldn’t bother you with these continual updates except that I am worried that it’ll affect people’s ability to use the public dock.

Stay tuned and hope this is the last update!

Blessings,

Shelley and Dennis
