2nd Covid Vaccination Clinic on Thetis

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has announced that invitations are now being sent out for second doses of COVID-19 vaccines at 8 weeks from the time of the first dose being administered.

Island Health conducted a whole community clinic for age 80+ residents of Thetis Island in March, and therefore residents who were vaccinated at that time should be receiving invitations to book second doses. If you are over age 80 and had your first dose more than eight weeks ago, but have not received a notification to book your second dose by Saturday, May 29, you may not be registered in the provincial vaccination booking system. Please register by going to www.GetVaccinated.gov.bc.ca or call 1-833-838-2323 for support.

Island Health’s immunization teams will return to Thetis Island to provide second doses, along with first doses for those who have not yet been vaccinated including 12-17 year olds.
We will hold a second dose clinic in your community before July 1. Once the date is confirmed, we will notify the community at least 48 hours before we open for booking into these clinics.

Residents who have received notification they are eligible for their second dose are encouraged to wait to book when the clinics take place in your community. However, people may choose to try to book earlier into an ongoing clinic in the closest major centre, such as Duncan or Ladysmith.

• For more information about the provincial registration system or how to get vaccinated for COVID-19 visit the BC government website.

• For information on Island Health’s Whole Community Clinics visit the Island Health website

• For information on Island Health’s ongoing vaccine clinics visit the Island Health website. If you have questions about Island Health’s clinics in your region please contact Kristen Gregson, Area Director, Central Island Immunization Sites, at 250-217-5939 or at Kristen.Gregson@viha.ca.

Quarterly & Visitors' Guide Pick-up

We are looking for someone who would be able to pick up 6 boxes from Island Blue on Monday or later (anytime from 9am to 5pm) - it's the summer issue of the Quarterly plus this year's edition of the Visitors' Guide to Thetis Island.

It would be wonderful if whoever was doing it was coming back the same day, but we'll be grateful for whatever help we can get!

Looking for a 1-ton Axle with Frame and Hitch

My project - geodesic dome (49' dia) with 'pueblo' style home inside - has started!! Just received the building permit!! For positioning the concrete dome anchor blocks(18pcs in total) I try to find a 1-ton axle with any kind of hitch which I can 'upgrade'/modify with a small winch and a lift arm/beam. I just have to lift the blocks 30"x30"x30" of the ground a few inch and position it. The blocks have to be all aligned - one at a time - to get the dome struts in the right position. If anyone has an old frame with an axle or old 'pick-up' trailer and try to get rid of it please let me know.

Please call/text Cell: (250)301-8499 or e-mail:  matthias.zapletal@gmail.com

Dog Cone Wanted

Our dog has an injury and has started licking it. Does anyone have one of the awful cones that prevent this behaviour? Just wanted to check before going into town.

Thanks in advance!

Looking For Summer Accommodation

My family is seeking accommodation for a couple of weeks during the July 15 to August 15 window.

We were guests at Overbury for 44 years and now that they are no longer hosting, we are in need of somewhere new!

There would be 2 adults and possibly others, depending on the space.

Fire Hazard

Returning from a short shopping trip my wife Dianne met me at the front door to unload the frozen items.

I did smell smoke but decided it may be some one’s fireplace. Wrong, I followed the smoke to the front of the house and discovered an old stump blazing away. I yelled at my dear wife, “what are you thinking starting a fire?

She said she has been in the house and was never outside.

I quickly began dousing the small blaze with our precious water supply from barrels filled from our gutters. After the fire was flushed out, I discovered it had been started by the suns rise reflecting off some glass decorations placed near the stump. All this happened just after having a conversation with the fire chief earlier in the ferry line up. The conversation was on my discussion on fire permits and the fact that why was Thetis fire rating at high when most others were at moderate.

The Fire Chief knows best.
