Thetis Island Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting

Thetis Island Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on Monday evenings will be cancelled until further notice. There was an excellent article in the New York Times March-11 about the effectiveness of AA. If you are having a problem with alcohol during this pandemic don’t be afraid to reach out.

In love and service

Rodney

NYTArticle: Alcoholics Anonymous vs. Other Approaches: The Evidence Is Now In

An updated review shows it performs better than some other common treatments and is less expensive.

Free Fugly Soap

Are you in need of a bar of soap?  Continuous hand washing is our #1 tool to keep our little community safe.  It doesn't matter why you need it, if you are low on soap and need a bar of soap to wash your hands, please take ONE free of charge.

Bear in mind these are fugly soap...seconds, maybe they didnt mold well, they may be cut crooked, be an odd shape or be an experimental recipe.   They are unlabelled.  The important thing is they will all clean your hands to help prevent the spread of covid19.  if you need soap please give a fugly bar a home.

They will be put next to the drop box at the post office on Saturday morning.  I will replenish from time to time as long as I have fuglys.  Thanks to Postmaster Kevin for helping make this happen.

Carol Swann

Thank-you, Carol, for MAKING this happen!

Food Safety at Jollity Farm

In response to COVID-19 farmers are being especially conscious, by keeping the farmyard & tools clean, buckets disinfected and of course plenty of hand washing.

Meat & processed products for sale, were prepared in a commercial kitchen before the outbreak. They are all safely packaged and frozen.

Your orders will be packed in brown paper bags by healthy folks wearing gloves, labelled, and placed in the Jollity Farm freezer this Saturday.

We will sanitize handles regularly through the day.

Please limit your short stop inside the shop to two people at a time.

E-transfer is accepted.

If you need delivery, please let us know.

Thanks for your support!

Capernwray Update

Dear Island Friends,

As you know, things have been moving very quickly with the COVID-19 situation.  We want to take this opportunity to fill you in on what we have been doing in response.

Our Spring Break Conference programmes have been cancelled. The Spring Term of Bible School (Mar 30 - May 7) has been cancelled.

Our students will not be returning (with the exception of a few to collect their belongings).  Only long-term staff are on property at this time.

In order to follow the directives of our health authorities for “social distancing”, we have closed our property to visitors, the general public and groups, and have implemented strict protocols amongst our staff for hygiene, sanitization, and social distancing.  No one has contracted this virus or has shown symptoms.

We applaud the leadership and communication of our governments and health authorities.  We are grateful for this island community, our beautiful province, and the country in which we live and the abundant blessings that many in the world do not have, especially in times like these.

In this next unique season, we will be looking for creative ways we can continue to reach out, encourage and serve our students, guests and you, our valued community.

~ The Staff of Capernwray Harbour ~

P.S. we have found the below links helpful in regards to “social distancing”:

Update for Thetis Island Marina & Pub

The Thetis Island Pub and Restaurant are now closed. There will be no entry into the pub and restaurant facilities nor will we be able to accommodate any washroom facilities to the public. We will be taking Take out orders from 11:00-6:30 Monday to Saturday and from 10:00-5:00 on Sunday. The menu will be limited so please call us at 250-246-3464 to see what is available.

The Liquor Store and General Store are still open to the public from 9:00 to 7:00 (Mon-Sat) and 10:00-5:30 (Sun) but we may close a little early if things are quiet. The Post Office hours will remain the same from 12:30 to 5:00 (Mon-Fri) with the Postmaster out doing deliveries and sorting from 2:15 to 3:30.

The fuel dock is also still open 9-4 (Mon-Sat) for Gas and Diesel. Propane is available 9:00 to 11:30am Mon to Fri only.

Please note that changes could occur at anytime and we will try our best to accommodate all during these troubling times. Thank you for your patience.

Please Wash Your Hands

We have been told that the most effective tool we have is washing our hands.  Learning to wash and dry your hands properly is so vitally important.

Take the time to watch the attached video, and then practice.  As a cook, there are many days when I wash my hands over 40 times.  Over a 16-hour period, that is about every 15 minutes.  Which is about the same level as a health care worker.  You may not need to do it as often, but practice does make perfect.

See video here: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/13/world/how-to-wash-your-hands-coronavirus.html

Also, there's an easy print notice for your main entry door (the one you most often use when you are leaving or arriving home).  Print one out, cut in half, and post at the door: Wash Hands Cards.  Makes a great reminder.

Look after yourself, and by doing that, look after others.

Ann Dickie
