Looking for a place to rent. My time is running out for being on the dock. We do have a dog and 2 cats. Been on the island for 12 years. If your place needs any kind of work we can get it done.

A gentle reminder, All Day Sunday Brunch starting at 11am.
Breakfast starts at Thetis Island Marina this Monday 9ish.
They are out early this year with our warm weather. Check yourself and your animals often. If one bites, gently pull slowly out with tweezers (let the tick back out) and don’t twist it. You want the head and mouth parts to still be attached when the little sucker lets go.

“The Western Black-legged tick (Ixodes pacificus) is very common during the spring and early summer. It occurs on vegetation in warm, moist areas on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and along the mainland coast between the United States border and Powell River. Its eastward range extends along the Fraser River to Yale and north to Boston Bar.
The red and black females and smaller black males attach to humans, deer, cats and dogs, becoming grey and bean-like in size as they feed. The bite is often painful and may result in a slow-healing ulcer. This tick does not cause paralysis; however, it is a carrier of the microorganism responsible for Lyme disease in North America. The organism which causes Lyme Disease, Borrelia burgdorferi, has been found in ticks collected from many areas of B.C., and health authorities now believe that Lyme Disease carrying ticks may be present throughout the province.” Government of BC
We are out of egg cartons! Please drop off your clean, used egg cartons to the stand at Mission Rd, Jollity Farm or the recycle depot (this Saturday).

Just because YOU can't see them, doesn't mean they're not there!

The Assembly Hall portion of Forbes Hall has been redesigned with Standard Framing instead of the originally planned Timber Frame construction. This change is creating significant cost reductions for the build, and long-term sustainability value.
A consequence of this change is that the Glulam Structural Lumber (rough material), which had already been ordered by the manufacturer, is now superfluous to the build (excepting for pieces that can be used in a few other applications).
There are a couple of options: the package can be left with the manufacturer, and a discounted credit will be put against TICA’s invoice.
The other option is for TICA to sell the package, trying to recoup more than the manufacturer is offering. Is there anyone that is interested in purchasing and using, or reselling, the package? Or, is there anyone interested in managing the resale for TICA? The package can be shipped to Chemainus if needed. Warehousing will be required (with an accessible 40’ radius), and the package (whole or in piecemeal) would need to be sold within the next two months. This could be a good, short-term contract for someone.
It is unfortunate that time is short for this decision. The remaining timber package for the hall is due to leave Squamish for Chemainus later next week. Any expressions of interest will need to be put forth this weekend.

The notification of this process consisted of 2 advertisements in the Ladysmith Chronicle in August 2018. T
he consequence is that none of the directly affected neighbours on Preedy Harbour or Forbes Road knew of the application or had the chance to comment. Although the period for public/neighbour was closed last August, if you have concerns about the disingenuous process by which this occurred or the creeping industrialization of Thetis/Gulf Islands please contact Jordan.Wagner@gov.bc.ca at the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resources and the Islands Trust. The shellfish license now depends on rezoning of Preedy Harbour area to Aquaculture by the Islands Trust with a public meeting sometime in the future. Please let your thoughts on this be known.
