Friday, July 10, 2020 at 9:41AM SYNOPSIS: (Today-tomorrow) In the next 24 hours a low will cross the north Island and the mainland inlets and open into a broad unstable trough over the Chilcotin. Most of the associated rainfall will fall over those areas and could be heavy at times with only a few scattered showers over south and east Vancouver Island and virtually nothing over the mainland areas south of Desolation Sound. Weak ridging tomorrow afternoon brings partial clearing and a smattering of sunny breaks.
OUTLOOK: (Friday-Sunday) The wet progressive pattern continues into the weekend with the next system reaching the coast Friday afternoon. As with today’s complex system the bias will be for most of the rainfall to stay up over northern Vancouver Island and the coastal inlets north of Powell River. The current forecast model shows heavy rainfalls for the outer coasts Saturday afternoon with some areas seeing over 40 mm! But a few bands of clouds will cross the southern and eastern sections on Saturday bringing a chance of showers. All areas remain cloudy and wet through Sunday.

Friday, July 10, 2020 at 9:38AM Dave Knowles has advised St.Margarets Cemetery that he is retiring from his long held position as grave digger. When I took over managing the cemetery in 2009 Dave had already been providing this much needed service for years.
It is the kind of job that required flexibility , a willingness to drop everything including your regular paid job, show up and dig a grave, be available to fill in after the burial all the while using your back hoe and hours of time. We in the community have been lucky to have Dave. Whenever families asked what the cost would be to have the grave prepared Dave would always say “ I don’t want anything. These are my friends that i am burying.” He never took money for doing this job. St.Margarets Cemetery extends its deepest gratitude to Dave for his service over the years and wish him all the best.
The Thetis Island community should know that under normal circumstances the family of the bereaved are responsible for the costs of digging a grave for the burial of human remains. St.Margarets will be looking for someone to replace Dave. Our hope is that we can at least find someone onThetis with a machine that would be willing to take it on.If not an operator from across the water will have to be contracted.
