Narcan

In an earlier notice we published a reminder that the nearest Automated External Defibrilator (AED) to the tennis court and the community trails on Mission Road is located at the front entrance of the Fire Hall.

We should have also mentioned that there is also a Narcan (Naloxone) kit inside the AED cupboard in case of an overdose with recreational opioid drugs such as fentanyl or heroin, or even non-opioid drugs that may have been laced with fentanyl.

Overdose medical emergencies can be quickly fatal, and have nothing to do with the police.

Call 911 and grab the Narcan kit as well as the AED.

Make sure the emergency dispatcher knows the location of the OD patient.

Edith Hyatt

Sadly, Edith Hyatt passed away suddenly and unexpectedly June 15th, Monday morning, in the Cowichan District Hospital.  She had been briefly hospitalized for a heart issue, and was scheduled to be discharged Monday afternoon.  She was very much looking forward to returning home.

Edith and Ron have lived on Thetis for over 30 years and she was just 50 days shy of her 97th birthday.  Cards of condolences may be sent to Ron Hyatt, Box 11-10.  He cannot hear the telephone.

St. Margaret's Cemetery Stewardship Volunteers

St. Margaret’s Cemetery is looking to create a volunteer stewardship program for the maintenance of the new cemetery area. As many of you may be aware a small parcel of land adjacent to St. Margarets Cemetery was donated by Capernwray a number of years ago. A plan has been in development to create a green cemetery in this area. This plan combined with  environmental stresses  such as the die off of cedars and balsam fir and the collapse of the bank have precipitated our taking some actions. The consequences of those actions have created other problems primarily invasive blackberries in the new area.

We are looking to establish a group of volunteers who would each be responsible for a quadrant of the new area their job to be removing by hand blackberry plants. It is the cemetery's policy not to use chemicals. Goats would destroy not only the blackberries but all the native plants trying to establish themselves.  The volunteer would be asked to commit to maintaining their section by removing the blackberries  over the next few years. You would work at your time and speed.

If you would like to participate in this opportunity to create and maintain a beautiful natural environment
