A large upper ridge continues to dominate the west coast weather pattern, bringing dry sunny weather Friday and Saturday, with temperatures in the mid-teens, low Relative Humidity (25-25%), and light wind for most parts of the Coastal Fire Centre. Haida Gwaii is experiencing considerable rainfall today.
OUTLOOK: (Saturday-Monday) As the upper ridge gradually transitions eastward, outflow conditions build, bringing the strongest gradient for Saturday morning. Inlets and coastal mountain valleys can expect northerly winds reaching 25-45 km/h for several hours Saturday morning. Afternoon winds decrease as temperatures warm and the pressure gradient balances. The same pattern repeats Sunday morning but likely wind speeds will be lower. Afternoon temperatures increase, climbing a degree or two each day, while humidity falls. Afternoon weekend winds will be much lighter in the mornings, but may gust easterly on the east side of Vancouver Island.
