Change of Date for the Philosophers' Café to Monday, December 2

After some difficulty and juggling, the Islands Trust Committee decided to hold their visioning event, Thetis: 2050, on November 25, the very date we had chosen for the postponed Philosophers’ Café meeting. In order to avoid competition for a limited audience, and to support the Islands Trust initiative, I am proposing that we postpone the date of our next session to Monday, December 2, 7:00 p.m. at Heneage House at The Portal.

There will be several individuals very happy about this change of date, including Suzanne Sarioglu, who is an engaged artist who was distressed to be missing this exciting topic. She will be back with us by then and, I hope, able to attend.

Please make this change in your calendar.

Thanks,

Gary Geddes

Ride Needed to Nanaimo or Duke Point Ferry for Wednesday, 13th Nov

I need to head to Vancouver next week and I'm looking for a ride from Thetis to Nanaimo or Duke Point ferry terminals at any time on Wednesday, 13th Nov (preferably) or Tuesday. I was wondering if I could hitch a ride with someone to either ferry terminal? Willing to pitch in for gas. Only 1 small backpack.

If you can offer a ride, please let me know at advani.sahir@gmail.com or 7782236647.

Kitchen Reno Leftovers

We have a variety of cabinet doors and hardware available free after our kitchen reno. These are solid wood doors. Unfortunately the lower cabinets did not all come out in one piece. Also, a corner countertop with sink cutout.

And… we had ordered a new White granite double bowl sink, which arrived damaged. It can be glued back together but it won’t be pretty - maybe good for a shop sink or outdoors. The vendor doesn’t want it back so it, too, is available free of charge.

It’s all going to Bings before too long if nobody comes by.

Remembrance Day, Monday Nov 11

With Forbes Hall not available, this year’s observation will be a simple lowering of the flag ceremony to be held at the firehall on Mission Road at 11am. Get there a few minutes early.

Those wishing for a more complete ceremony, there is the Chemainus Remembrance Day ceremony at 10:45 am at the Chemainus Memorial Cenotaph 9799 Willow Street, which will be followed by an open house at the Chemainus Legion.  Food, beverages and entertainment is being offered.
