Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 7:16AM At 7:10 PM on July 2/19, a red plane was buzzing over the tree tops on Pilkey Point Road on Thetis Island.
I have put up with this annoyance in the past, but tonight I phoned the RCMP to finally deal with it. If you too are annoyed with this continued harassment of our peace and quiet, I would encourage you to lodge a complaint. I know that people are annoyed with the freighter anchorages affecting our sea beds, but I am sick and tired of the noise pollution as well!
Speak up and phone the RCMP!”

Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 7:14AM Telegraph Harbour Marina will again have Smitty’s Smokin’ Hot commercial portable oven on their property for their catering needs on Saturday July 6th. This rotisserie oven is completely enclosed and propane but does vent some white, sparkless smoke occasionally during the roasting process. Telegraph Harbour Marina and Smitty’s are also careful to have fire suppression water and tools on site.
We appreciate all reports of smoke during wildfire season, and if you are unsure this Saturday whether the smoke you may see at Telegraph Harbour Marina is from their roasting trailer, please don’t hesitate to call 911 or the TIVFD Duty Officer at 250-252-0228.

Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 6:03AM Monday evening three marine flares were shot from a boat of a person known to live on Thetis and one started a bush fire on Penelakut.
The Penelakut Fire Dept. was called out to extinguish the fire. The RCMP were informed.
If you have any information about this extremely dangerous act, please call the Ladysmith RCMP whom have started the file and are investigating.

Monday, July 1, 2019 at 9:39AM Sorry for the late notice folks. The July 1st Sail Past is on again! Decorate your boats and come enjoy an afternoon on the water sailing/cruising around Penelakut and Thetis.
1:30pm: Depart from Thetis Island Marina
1st Pitstop: Tent Island
2nd Pitstop: Penelakut Spit
Regroup at Thetis Island Marina
Reminder – please NO water balloons in boats this year. Let’s give the fish another break from balloons lost at sea.
Please note: The evening gathering/picnic will not be held at Don’s beach this year. We will gather in Dunfield Park at the Thetis Island Marina and support our one and only local restaurant. Any musicians who wish to liven up the evening are welcome to do so!
This event will take place rain or shine. Any questions - please contact Tricia Hunter 246-8954 hunter_studio@hotmail.com
Looking forward to seeing many decorated boats at sea on Monday!

Monday, July 1, 2019 at 9:38AM As we head deeper into fire season and the expectation of a High Hazards Activity shutdown in the near future, we want to remind you that the fire trucks and the rescue truck need a 12’ wide clearance and a 16’ height clearance on your driveway to be able to access you in an emergency.
Please ensure nothing from the December storm has come lower and that branches are cleared back. Even small branches could take out a Radio Aerial and cause communications problems for the fire department.
We won’t be coming down your driveway if it isn’t cleared.
Thank you for making sure your lot number is visible from both directions.
