Tuesday and Thursday Yoga Ends April 5

Hello everyone,

After weeks of contemplating what to do I have to decided to finish teaching yoga at the hall on Thursday, April 4th.  This means no yoga on Tuesday or Thursday mornings after April 5th 2019. Tatiana is still teaching on Monday evenings - please check the calendar for times.

Spring has sprung and people want to walk, boat, play in the garden and do many other spring & summer activities - me too; so I am going to take the rest of spring and summer off to finish a course on yoga's sister (the other half of the coin) Ayurveda.  I look forward to finding a space to teach more about the science and practice of healthy habits for longevity - which is what Ayurveda is (Ayur - life, Veda - science/knowledge).  The knowledge of life, these habits are game changers for your health and happiness.

Enjoy the spring and summer and if I find a great outdoor location maybe we can have a Saturday morning practice in someone's yard.  If you have a space that you wouldn't mind to have 4-6 people spread a yoga mat out for an hour once a week you could let me know and maybe we can have fun outside.

If you would like a one-on-one session with me or you want to set up your own personal practice I would be happy to assist you in designing therapeutic yoga practices that can help ease tension and/or pain.

Celebration of Life: Doug Snyder

Dear Thetis Islanders,

We realize that many of you already know about the passing of my beloved husband Doug on March 23 at Duncan Hospital. We are so thankful he is with the Lord. He has had a number of medical challenges in the last years and he is now at rest.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Doug at the Capernwray Lecture Hall on Thursday, April 11th. We will send along the time for this as soon as we know.

With our love,

Anne and family

Missing Mailbox Keys

I am missing one of the parcel box keys for Parcel Box #25. These are the keys with the blue tags attached to them. Sometimes people put them back in their own mailbox or did someone mistakenly take it home.

Be Advised!

Your fire department responded to a brush fire Thursday morning. A burn pile “got away” from the property owner very quickly and he had the presence of mind to call 911 early rather than waiting to see if he could handle it alone with his garden hose.

This should be a wake-up call to all of us on Thetis.  We have heard about the grass fires and bush fires across on Vancouver Island these past few weeks but think it won’t happen here because “I’m always safe” and “I have been doing this for years with no problems”.  But we are dryer earlier, there is more fuel load in the forest, and there are more people wanting to clear up storm debris by burning.

Please follow the safety regulations for outdoor burning: size less than 3 metres across and 2 metres high; must have a fuel break a.k.a. Fire break, down to mineral soil around your burn pile; have an adequate water supply and tools at the site; attend the fire at all times; extinguish thoroughly before leaving the area.  Only burn when the Venting Index is “Good”. We hope that this will be the only scare this fire season, but you must realize that this year is not like other years and the risk for a dangerous “get-away” is great.  If you can’t chip or bury your yard waste, please use extreme caution when burning in the woods.  We must depend upon each other to keep the fire risk as low as possible.
