Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 8:49PM For me its all about the library. When you enter the library you don't just find a great selection of books (for all ages) and DVDs (for all tastes). You find a place where people who love to read meet casually and talk about books. "What are you reading?" "What do you recommend?"
So many times a book has been recommended to me and I think, nah, that doesn't interest me. But I've been persuaded to take it home and give it a try. I've stopped being surprised when a book I never thought I'd enjoy leaves me wondering, questioning and wanting more.
Our little library opens these doors and I just love it.

Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 8:32PM We are having our Student Success afternoon to celebrate and acknowledge our wonderful Students of Thetis Island Elementary School.
This event will be held at Pioneer Pacific Camp at 1:00 pm on Tuesday June 18th. The students have made their own arcade games and they will be sharing them with the community.
We are going to have donations for a "Fun Pass" so you can play all the games that you want!!! There are prizes as well for our highly skilled community members.
We are also selling some jam, apple sauce, salsa, bread and butter pickles and relish that have all been made by our students. The funds raised will be divided between the Food Bank in Duncan and the Thetis Island Elementary School for something special that the students would like to purchase.
And of course, true to Thetis Island Tradition, there will be tea coffee, and goodies served.
Please come and join us for a fun filled afternoon.

Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 11:25AM Jollity & Habitat Farms have formed a new friendship with the family behind Cowichan Milk. This 4th generation family farm in Cobble Hill, will be the first on Vancouver Island to supply their single origin milk in reusable glass bottle by delivery.
A full range of product will be available starting with:
3.8% M.F. Cream Top - 1.89 L and 946 ml
3.8% M.F. Homogenized - 1.89 L / 946 ml / 473 ml
2% M.F. Homogenized - 1.89 L / 946 ml / 473 ml
10% M.F. Half & Half Cream - 473 ml
3.8% M.F. Chocolate Milk - 946ml / 473 ml
Fresh milk will be available at the Jollity Farm Shop for 'subscribers' (Wed & Sat). Purchasing local, glass bottled milk is an excellent option for the environment, for a number of reasons:
Bulk buying/group purchasing means less individual trips to a grocery store.
We will supply the Cowichan Milk farm shop with our cured meat products, so our trips are dual purpose and therefore efficient.
Milk does not travel across Canada to be combined in a bulk vats only to be redistributed back across Canada again.
Reusable glass bottles are better storage option for preserving the quality of milk and only the cap gets recycled.
You are helping to support the local food economy ensuring protection of agricultural lands and farming traditions.
Benefits of single origin milk from a small local family farm:
Cows are raised in a top of the line facility with loving care (subscribers will be invited for a tour of the farm)
Cows have access to grass pasture and fed with hays from the family farm.
Cows have access to a robot milker and automatic grooming stations so they are always comfortable and content.
Cows have been carefully bred to produce milk with A2 proteins resulting in better digestibility.
Single origin local milk (not bulk vat blended from many farms) means it is fresh, safe and traceable.
Milk is NOT UHT (Ultra Heat Treated) and safely pasteurized at the lowest heat allowed by CIFA (food safety agency) for highest quality.
In order that this be a sustainable venture, we need enough regular subscribers to make it work. Pricing will depend upon the number of subscribers, as the larger order we have, the better the price will be. For example, price will be similar to cost of organic milk from the grocery store.
This is a request for an expression of interest, so please contact us to let us know you would like regular fresh milk, and/or if you have any questions:

Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 11:23AM Hi All,
I am writing about the present BC government and their plans to make severe cuts to Education Funding.
In 2002 the liberal government stripped out teaching contract by removing class size and class composition from our collective agreement. At this time there were severe cuts to Support Teachers, such as Special Needs Teachers and Teacher Librarians. There were also increases in class sizes. This was a very sad time for Education in the province of BC.
The British Columbia Teachers’ Federation worked very hard and in 2017 there was a Supreme Court Ruling, which restored our Collective Bargaining Rights. Many new teachers were hired, class sizes were reduced to a manageable level, Support Teachers, such as Teacher Librarians and Special Learning Needs Teachers, had time increases, and new Teachers were hired.
Our current BC government is planing to make severe cuts again to Education and delete all of the restored language on Class Composition. We need to pressure the government to keep the present funding for education intact and to uphold the Supreme Court Ruling that was made in 2017.
Thanks for taking the time to read this email and respond to our BC Government.
Best Regards
Ken Redman
