We Remembered

Thank you to all who made the time to honour the past and express our hopes for the future by attending the Remembrance Day gathering at Forbes Hall on Sunday at 11am.

Murray Fraser had arranged for the fly past over us at 10:54 a.m. and it was great to have Michelle volunteer to play taps once again during the lowering of the flag.

Thank you Graeme Shelford for facilitating, and also a big thank you to the TIVFD Auxiliary for the coffee service that was much appreciated by those attending.

Lest We Forget.

Islands Trust

Hi folks,

I thought it was important to send you a quick update on this weeks’ events surrounding the IT Trustee swearing-in…

Day one was comprised of an orientation at the IT office in Victoria followed by being Officially sworn in that evening.

The next day was focused on orientation for new Trustees and updating of those Trustees re-elected.

Yesterday was compromised of more orientation, the elections of the executive (x4) and IT Conservancy (x2) positions and then the being of the business the new ITC.

Your Thetis Island Trustee, Peter Luckham was re-elected as the Exec Chair, along with Dan Rogers, Sue Ellen Fast, Laura Patrick, as Vice chairs. I was elected to IT Conservancy (1 of 2 elected), along with Kate–Louise Stamford. This will be a challenging term, but I am looking forward to facing them with what appears to me, to be a solid group of Trustees who have the object of the IT Act front and centre.

The afternoon began with a welcome from MLA Adam Olsen and MP Elizabeth May. The last activity for me was the Town Hall forum which had 5 members of public whom addressed the new ITC emphasizing their concerns and direction of the new ITC going forward.

Thank you all again for your support and encouragement to pursue this opportunity to serve the residents of Thetis Island, and the greater Islands Trust.

Kind regards,

Doug Fenton

Blood Pressure Clinic & Meet Your Community Paramedic ~ Nov. 28th

Mark down this date - Wednesday November 28th - for a Blood Pressure/Blood Sugar Clinic at the Library during Soups On.

Community Paramedic Georgia Nelson will be available from 11:15 (if the ferry is on time) to 12:45 (to give her time for a bowl of soup before taking the 1:10 ferry back to Chemainus).  Several people have already expressed a wish to be on the Visiting Community Paramedic list and this is a great opportunity to discuss the program and how wellness checks and health education could benefit you.

This clinic is our “foot in the door” to get regular visits by a community paramedic at your home.  Heart conditions, diabetes, blood pressure issues, cancer patients, post-operative, Parkinson’s, respiratory issues, stroke patients, etc. - all could benefit from this free service.

Come in and have a word with Georgia on November 28th and she will be more able to get the full program rolled out on our island if she hears there is a need.

And of course, take advantage of Soups On…a terrific lunch for just $5.00.
