Tuesday & Thursday Yoga Classes ~ Some Classes Cancelled

Hello my fellow yogini’s (& yogi’s), 

Due to conflicts in my schedule and an Islands Trust meeting there are several cancellations for Nov/Dec 2018.  I am cancelling Nov 29th (this Thursday) and also both classes in the week of Dec 11 & 13th both the Tuesday and the Thursday, one is IT and the other is my commitment. 

We will have yoga on Dec 4 & 6th, and Dec 18th & 20th and then I will take two weeks off for Christmas and New Year planning and be back on January 8th. 

I am interested to know if there are any islanders interested in a gentle, chair yoga practice for more gentle therapeutic yoga.  I have spent most of 2017 & 2018 healing from bulging and herniated discs in my spine and my yoga has changed significantly to be able to support what I am able to do know.  If that interests you please feel free to drop me an email at dawn_gordon@telus.net.

A white dinghy with blue interior was found floating upside-down through The Cut on Monday morning shortly after the extreme high tide.

Christmas Bazaar ~ Vendor Reminder

Vendors at the Bazaar: Don't forget to have a float for this Saturday's Bazaar.

Cafe TICA Menu for Dec. 1st Christmas Bazaar

The cafe will be serving coffee/tea with home baked goodies from 10am to 11:30 or until we run out.

We will be serving lunch from 11:30 to 2 pm or until we run out.

Lunch Menu 

Soup- Brazilian Black Bean served with homemade bun

Sandwiches- Ham and Cheese or Roasted Vegetable with cheese.

Sandwiches will be served with mixed green salad

For the kids and the kids at heart we will be serving Hot Dogs, with or without a salad.

A baked dessert will be available.

Looking for Chess Players

Thetis Elementary School is looking for chess players, in our community, to play chess with our students. 

Chess will be happening on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30-2:30 at Thetis Elementary School starting on Tuesday December 4th.  

There is a chess tournament at the end of January, so we would really like our students to get some more experience playing chess.

Forbes Hall Expansion & Upgrade: Fundraising & Goal Setting

We are thrilled to announce that we have been successful in being awarded a $250,000.00 BC Community Gaming Grant through the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

As many of you may know, grants have always been (and will continue to be) included in our “amount raised” total. Including the two grants we have been awarded, with the donations locally fundraised, we now qualify to receive the full $200,000.00 matching donation from an anonymous donor. Achieving this goal has been the main focus of our local fundraising for 2018.

With the Rural Dividend Grant ($10,000), the BC Community Gaming Grant ($250,000.00), our local fundraising events, merchandise sales, and donations, we have now surpassed our initial 2018 fundraising goal of $930,000.00 ~ well done!

The total of funds we have raised to date: $1,120,064.00 

While working on the BC Community Gaming Grant application this past summer, we were required to develop a budget for the total project. This revision more accurately reflects the anticipated costs of a new build, and the total project costs. As a result, the current fundraising goal is $1,250.000. All expenditures to date have been included in the working budget.

When we go to tender, an even more accurate target will be determined, and the fundraising goal will be adjusted once more. We plan on the project going out for tender in January/February 2019.
