Philosophers Café: Monday, May 13th ~ 7:30 PM

We are meeting Monday evening at 7:30 at Overbury in the lovely glassed-in assembly room overlooking Stuart Channel and the little and big islands.

The reconciliation sessions had quite an impact, especially with the invitation to attend the trail opening on Penelakut shortly after.

The topic this week is global warming and climate change, which seems to be on everyone’s mind, especially given the extremes of temperature and weather being experienced here and worldwide.

Many in the regular group have signed up with SLACK, a community-based website on which we’ve been able to download some pretty significant and challenging articles and commentary from experts and concerned citizens.

Do have a look; I’m posting the link below. Peter Luckham will emcee this session.

If you decide to join us for the discussion, you might want to bring along water or juice and your own glass. If you’re in the mood and have the time, why not bring along a few cookies or nibblies for the seagulls in the group.

Cheers, Gary Geddes, 246-8176

Marshmallow Summers?

It makes sense these days to have a Propane campfire appliance.

No sparks, no embers, and immediate flame shut-off. You can purchase one at Costco for example for under $125 and they last for years.

One campfire sparked wildfire will cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars (which unfortunately also will last for years).

Propane campfires are normally allowed during solid fuel campfire bans. So if you haven’t already made the switch, please consider it. You can still enjoy those blackened marshmallow treats all summer, but lower the risk of wildfire on the island.
