Wildfire Smoke

Thank you to those concerned about the smell and sight of hazy smoke in our area and contacted 911 or the firehall.  Your vigilance is reassuring.

The hazy, smelly smoke has been determined to be most likely originating from the massive California wildfires.  The Cowichan Valley region is enveloped in it at present.

You can check the smoke map at http://firesmoke.ca/

We are urging all residents and visitors with respiratory compromise to stay indoors at this time.  Wear your COVID mask outdoors.  Avoid strenuous activities.

There is still a complete ban on all outdoor fires on Thetis other than propane appliances.

We are continuing in HIGH Hazard, and all “high risk activities” must be completed by 11 am with a two-hour fire watch thereafter.

Immediately report all smoke columns to 911.

Fire Chief J. Caldbeck
