Outdoor Burn Ban Still in Effect on Thetis

Although the BC Forest Service has lifted the total fire ban for parks and crown land in the Coastal Fire Region, Thetis Island Fire Dept. continues to enforce a total fire ban, including campfires, at this time.
Local conditions in our forests are still at HIGH hazard and we need several full days/nights of rain here to lift the ban partially to allow for campfires. Long term fire weather forecasts predict a drying trend again for next week.
Please continue to report all outdoor smoke sightings on Thetis to 911 and the Fire Dept. will investigate. We still have to get through September, traditionally our driest month.
Any future change of the fire ban on Thetis will be posted on the TIVFD website, e-Spokes, the Thetis Blog, the ferry hazard board, and the permit signs posted at various locations on the island.
You can also call the Duty Officer for information: 250-252-0228 (due to several large cell holes on the island, you may have to leave a message).
