Shellfish Lease

The provincial government has approved a Shellfish lease of 44 acres covering essentially the entire passage between Thetis Island and Damen/Scott Island.

To see the application

https://arfd.gov.bc.ca/ApplicationPosting/getfile.jsp?PostID=55743&FileID=67688&action=view

The notification of this process consisted of 2 advertisements in the Ladysmith Chronicle in August 2018. T

he consequence is that none of the directly affected neighbours on Preedy Harbour or Forbes Road knew of the application or had the chance to comment. Although the period for public/neighbour was closed last August, if you have concerns about the disingenuous process by which this occurred or the creeping industrialization of Thetis/Gulf Islands please contact Jordan.Wagner@gov.bc.ca at the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resources and the Islands Trust. The shellfish license now depends on rezoning of Preedy Harbour area to Aquaculture by the Islands Trust with a public meeting sometime in the future. Please let your thoughts on this be known.
