Forbes Hall Health Services is Looking for an Additional Committee Member

Several years ago, TIVFD held meetings with VIHA and the administrators who were planning the new Cowichan Hospital. At the time, we laid out what we thought was needed, which included a Telehealth Terminal, and told them a medical space would be included in the plans for a new Forbes Hall. The hall was built, including a care station, which included a VIHA Terminus for Telehealth.

A leftover from business created by the Program Outreach Committee, before the Forbes Hall became occupied, Shirley Burr was tasked with finding a way to get some medical and health services operating in the hall. Not being familiar with the demographic or needs particular to Thetis she asked Jeannine Caldbeck with her knowledge and resources to attend Zoom meetings with VIHA to give them a clearer picture.

Upon completion of the building and the appointment of Ann Dickie as Acting Facilities and Community Coordinator, the Forbes Hall Health Services Committee of Ann Dickie, Jeannine Caldbeck and Shirley Burr was formed, and a working relationship has been developed with some of the senior administrators of VIHA and their teams. Several virtual meetings have taken place and we are now in discussion as to how to get some practitioners in place. Each of these meetings brings new needs and circumstances to light which narrows the focus.  However, the process is slow and will continue to be for some time to come but we are finding that we are being considered as important members of an active team, and that our requests are being taken seriously.

At this time, we feel that we need an ambassador from the Thetis community, someone who will communicate important information to the community, field questions from individuals who may or may not have specific needs, and who will direct potential clients in the right direction. As well, this person would at times, outreach to non-VIHA Health Practioners to consider offering their services on Thetis via Forbes Hall. This would be a volunteer position for a person who is approachable and who has no further agenda. This person would be required to circulate important notices and requests as needed.
