Capernwray Pond Project

Capernwray has hired a local contractor to enlarge through machine excavation the water storage capacity of one of their ponds.  Although this activity will be taking place over the next few days during EXTREME FIRE HAZARD conditions, the site has been inspected by the Improvement District and Fire Dept. and found to be at an acceptable risk because (a) the excavation in taking place on wet pond soil, (b) dry vegetation from the pond perimeter has been trimmed or removed, (c) the contractor has their own fire truck at the site and it is connected to the Capernwray pump house, (d) the excavation work will take place in the morning when RH values are at their highest and (e) excavation activity will cease by 1 p.m. and Capernwray staff will then post a two hour fire watch at the site as per High Risk Activities regulations.

This information is being posted by the TIVFD to allay concerns that residents may have during EXTREME HAZARD weather about the fire safety of the Capernwray project.  The project needed to be completed before the rains started to refill the pond.

All requests for High Hazard Activities exemptions during EXTREME or HIGH FIRE HAZARD weather must meet strict criteria before being approved by the Improvement District and the Fire Dept.
