Job Opportunity

I am the District Electoral Officer for Nanaimo North Cowichan (DEO) and I need a great assistant. (DDEO)

Elections BC is looking for local leaders to serve as Deputy  District Electoral Officer in our Riding (Nanaimo North Cowichan) DDEO

DEOs and DDEOs plan for, manage, and administer provincial general elections, by-elections and other events.

The work of a DEO or DDEO calls for broad management experience; strong planning and organizing skills; comfort with computer technology and office automation; expertise in material, human and financial resources management; and leadership of a diverse workforce. DEOs and DDEOs must have project management skills, excellent judgment and stamina to complete all the tasks of an election within a very short and specific time period. In return, the work is varied, challenging and rewarding.

This is a great retirement job as  a lot of the pre planning  and post event work  can be done from home.  However, there could  be off island work for about 9-10 weeks during an event (election).   This is at an office in Saltair,  Ladysmith or hopefully Chemainus if I can find a 4000 square foot commercial space to lease short term.  (Any leads would be appreciated).   The work happens every 3 or 4 years depending on snap elections.  The next Election is supposed to be  October 19, 2024.  but that could change if a snap election is called.   DEO'S and DDEO's prepare about a year in advance for an election event.

The  DDEO wage is $40.00 per hour for pre and post event work and the event salary is about $20,000.00

If this is something that may interest you, please check the Elections BC Website   elections.bc.ca/jobs to apply  before February 4, 2023.
