Yard Waste Caution

Thursday afternoon/early evening there were five serious brush fires reported to 911 in the Cowichan Valley, before 7 pm!  

One was described as the size of two football fields.  Yard waste burns that got away have been blamed for a few of these and the several that were reported on Wednesday.  Fire Permits are now available for April 1st for the month of April (www.thetisislandfire.ca) but we urge you to make sure you have water and tools on site, have the area cleared around the fire, and keep a close eye on your fire.  

Yard waste fires must be extinguished by 4 pm and the fire embers completely doused and cold to touch.  Don’t let the drizzle fool you…we are drying out quickly.
