New Way to Contribute to the TIVFS

The Thetis Island Volunteer Firefighters Society has set up a Brokerage Account to enable donations of securities. Donating a security (shares, bonds, etc.,) has a tax advantage in that any capital gain on that security is free from Capital Gains Tax if donated to a registered charity brokerage account. The donor receives a tax receipt for the value of the donation at the time it is transferred to the charity. The charity can then sell it and may receive more or less than this amount depending on whether the market goes up or down in the time between the deposit of the securities and the time they are sold.

Another painless way to donate to the TIVFS is to use the TIVFS member number when refuelling at a Mid-Island Co-op (like Henry Road). The number is 1391507.
The TIVFS receives a 4.75% rebate on any fuel you buy.
