Do You Have a Mooring?

After a lot of effort, the Thetis Island Marine Association has completed the mapping of the existing buoys in Telegraph Harbour.
We have been working with transport Canada to help keep our harbours safe.
Over the years - Some moorings have transferred ownership and/or have been abandoned.
Mooring owners are required to upkeep their moorings and have the proper identification, or they may be subject to removal.
Why it is Important to Comply with the Regulations?
1. You can be fined for not meeting the requirements set out in the regulations and standards.
2. In the event of an accident, private buoy owners may also be found liable for any damages resulting from negligence respecting their private buoy.
3. Transport Canada has now been given additional resources to enforce regulations so it is important to comply with these regulations and there is increasing pressure for moorage.
Currently about half of the moorings in Telegraph Harbour are non-compliant:

Mooring requirements are quite prescriptive and can be found on the TIMA website on the Thetis Island Community website in community groups Thetis Island Marine

Moorings must be identified physically on the mooring float with who is the current owner and contact information- updates can be sent to thetisislandmarine@gmail.com
