Forbes Hall Solar Panel Announcement
Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 8:17AM As of December 16th, the Solar Panels on Forbes Hall are “live”. Excess generation will feed back into BC Hydro’s grid. On Wednesday morning at 9:10 am, the panels were generating 170W, enough energy to power a phone charger or two. By mid-morning there was enough light (doesn't need to be full or direct sunlight) to support some of the heat pump / refrigerator load at 3,000W.
This is a very exciting next step in helping Forbes Hall to become both “greener” and more economical.
With this milestone achieved, TICA now awaits the receipt of the BC Hydro rebate, which can take up to two months following generation.
In the new year we will actively be looking for community volunteers to monitor generation data.
The TICA Board sincerely thanks the Community Climate Resilience Group for their initiative, Gary Geddes and Doug Fenton for leading the way forward, and Jim Moloney’s management of the project.
Finally, our thanks go to the many Islanders that found this to be a project of worth and donated generously to fund the installation.
Our sincere gratitude to all.
