Nature of Water Weekend July 26/27 Mark your Calendars!

Join members of Thetis Island Nature Conservancy (ThINC) and Community Climate Resilience (CCR) on Saturday July 26th and Sunday July 27th, for a Nature of Water Weekend.

  • On Saturday there will be five site visits to learn how Island residents are using innovative ways to conserve and collect water as well as understanding what our landscape tells us about groundwater.
    • (10 am) Matthias and Jutta Zapletal, 313 Forbes Road
    • (12pm) Mike and Shirley Harris, 237 Plateau Road
    • (1:30) Doug Fenton, 195 Pilkey Point Road
    • (3 pm) Vicki Walker, 221 Pilkey Point Road
    • (4:30 pm) Alex Rosewicz and Pauline Harwood, 217 Pilkey Point Road
    • (5:30 pm) BYO Picnic at the end of Pilkey Point
  • On Sunday at Forbes Hall come and hear three groundwater talks
    • (1:15 - 2:15) Mike Harris - Thetis Island Geoscape and Groundwater: A Field Geologist's Perspective
    • (2:30 - 3:30) David Slade - Water Wells 101. All About Rural Wells, Pump Systems, Water Quality, Water Treatment, and Conservation
    • (3:45 - 4:45) Tobi Elliot - Freshwater Footprint: The Island's Trust's Water Balance Project on Gabriola Island
