Thetis Cetacean Sightings Notifications

Want to know when orcas, humpback whales, or porpoises are visible from Thetis Island? With many eyes on the sea, it turns out they’re here more often than you might know. And there’s a chatter-free way to know as soon as they’re around, and tell others if you’ve spotted a cetacean, too.

How to join:

If you don’t already have the Signal app on your mobile, download it (https://signal.org/), open it, and set it up. Allow notifications.
(Signal is a messaging app like WhatsApp, but non-profit, and not Meta/Facebook.)

Then, on the mobile where you now have the Signal app, click on this link to join the Thetis Cetacean Sightings group: https://tinyurl.com/thetiscetaceans.

Once you’re in, you’ll hear from others on Thetis when there are orcas, porpoises, or other whales around Thetis. And, if you spot them yourself, send a message to the group saying where they are and where they’re headed.

Please use this only for sharing info about cetaceans that are visible around Thetis at the time you send the message — not for anything else. To protect everyone’s peace I am fierce about this! Many thanks to the 83 current members who respect this. (Thumbs-ups and thank yous are of course allowed — this is Canada.)

Happy whale-watching!

Adam (Sandell)
