Fire Weather Weekend Forecast

Overview

Parts of the Coastal Fire Centre saw multiple days of cooler, wetter weather last weekend, reducing fire risk and moderating fire behaviour in some areas. Despite that weather pattern, prolonged drought persists across much of the Coastal Fire Centre. We are forecasted for hot and dry weather this week combined with the existing wildfire activity in the province and within our Fire Centre these conditions are expected to elevate the potential for new fire starts and increase fire behaviour.

Fire weather

* Smoke from the Big Bar and Brunswick wildfire complexes has spread into the Fraser Canyon, Fraser Valley, and southern Vancouver Island, resulting in hazy or smoky conditions across much of the southern Coastal Fire Centre. Air quality is expected to gradually improve this weekend.

* Hot, dry weather will continue through the week, with elevated fire danger across the Coastal Fire Centre as fire indices continue to deteriorate.

* Gusty winds, particularly at higher elevations and through the Fraser Canyon and Pemberton later this week, may increase wildfire activity on existing incidents.

* Warm, dry conditions will persist into the weekend. While some atmospheric instability is expected in parts of the region, no thunderstorms are currently forecast.
