safeTALK Suicide Awareness Workshop

If there is enough interest, the Vancouver Island Crisis Line will bring the safeTALK three-hour seminar to Thetis Island later this summer, sponsored by the TIVFD.

This workshop will give you some comfort and confidence in addressing any concerns you have with friends, family members, co-workers and acquaintances.

It is the wish of the Vancouver Island Crisis Line that our community can become suicide-safer and a place where we are all able to watch out for each other with compassionate concern.

Please drop a note of interest to chief11@telus.net or phone me at 250-252-0544.

Ham Radio Course

A 16 hour Intro course will be offered here on Thetis by Jess Daws over 4 Saturdays from 9 AM to 3PM, on Sept. 29, Oct. 5, 12, and 19. The course is FREE with a $15 donation and a contribution to ferry costs and to provide lunch for the instructor.

We need a minimum of 6 people and a maximum of 25. The course will cover electronic theory and will include some practice exams.  I know some of our ham radio people might come for a refresher so please contact Mary or Petra by email to reserve a spot.

Pickleball, anyone?

Pickleball is an outdoor racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. It is a fun activity that shouldn't be too difficult to learn or play. A pickleball court has been set up on the tennis courts at the community centre and the equipment has been purchased... so get ready to play.

If you're interested, come to the community centre tennis court on Monday, June 19 at 10:00am. Please wear running shoes and comfortable clothing for play. If you can't attend but would like to learn to play pickleball or would like more information please contact Bev Greene at 250-246-3895.
