Direct from the Horse's Mouth! ~ the Bonds

Hello friends and neighbours.

We value you all so much and wanted to be sure to give you the news ourselves!

First off...we are not leaving Thetis Island, nor are we forsaking Jollity Farm & Nursery. We are making a move to a small second home at Fairburn Water Buffalo farm in Cobble Hill, where we will live and work Monday to Friday. A big reason for this move is to enable Finnigan to attend a high school that is a better fit for his final two years. We also aim to treasure this time as a family and carve out a bit more time for adventures together. Through a series of interesting work and family connections, we have identified a market niche and will be working on the development of a zero-waste, small scale water buffalo cheese processing facility. Stay tuned for more on this soon....

Secondly... it is our priority to be just as active in our community, and continue to support sustainable food and plant production on Thetis Island. We are currently looking for another farming family to continue the growing operation with our support. You can expect to see us on weekends as we work with the new farmers and assist them in the development of the farm and new crops.

Additionally... we are thrilled to announce that Stephanie Cottell will be taking over the plant & flower nursery and will continue to operate at Jollity Farm. We'll be there to support her along the way and help her to grow the offerings. You can look forward to many pollinator friendly plants and lots of bold, unique and colourful annual & perennial plants, naturally grown, through the seasons.

We thank you ALL for all your generous support as we have worked to grow this farm. Please continue to tell us what you want to see in terms of food security on Thetis Island, and with our growing farm co-operative, we shall all keep growing for you!

Noah, Elisabeth & Finnigan Bond (plus Ned too)

Strong Support for the Community Centre ~

In June, the TICA president wrote a letter to islanders asking for contributions to help us in continuing our work in maintaining and improving the Community Centre.

We are grateful to report that, to date, TICA has received approximately $7,500 in donations in response to that letter.

This response is truly heartwarming and a testament to the importance of the Community Centre to all of us.

many thanks,

Matt Hess,

TICA Treasurer

Community Open House ~ The "Formerly Camp Columbia" Project

When: Sunday October 9, 1-3:30
You are warmly invited to participate in an upcoming open house at the former Camp Columbia location! We will be sharing our excitement and energizing this beautiful place that has such meaning to our community, and offering community members a chance to explore the lovely grounds and historic Heneage House.
The purpose of this event is to:
  • Provide the community with some background as to what's going on and where the project is at now
  • Create a space and time to hear your visions and ideas for the property as well as answer your questions
  • Launch our friendly community competition for a new name!
  • Inspire and motivate folks who may want to get involved
You are welcome to come any time between 1-3:30 and stay for as long as you are able.
We look forward to seeing you there!
