Syrian Refugee Crisis

I am interested in looking into what it would entail to sponsor someone or a family who is currently a refugee. If you have knowledge of the process or are just interested in looking into it as well, please let me know. It would be great to have a group of fellow Thetis folk with a range of skills, knowledge, and experiences. A diverse group tends to make for better decision making.

Nippy at Night Now?

As our chore-list activities turn to stacking firewood and preparing for cozy Autumn evenings in front of the fireplace, plan on cleaning your chimneys now to reduce the risk of a chimney fire. Ask your neighbours if they want to share transportation costs for a certified and insured chimney sweep. A reputable chimney sweep will also inspect your chimney for structural problems (cracking, re-pointing, etc,) that may become a danger during the heating season. And be sure to check your spark arresters.

In this class you will learn the difference between 3/4 Shimmy, 4/4 Shimmy, Choo Choo, and Piston Shimmy; master floreo hand movements; learn other Flamenco hand gestures; and have an opportunity to dance with some awesome, fun, fellow islanders!

Dining Out ~ Thetis Style

On Thursday evening, an amazing group of people pulled off an outstanding event to fundraise for TICA & TICF.  A dinner for 12 was offered for Auction at the recent Summer Soiree, and neatly cleared $1300; this was destined to be a great night. 

Decorating Forbes Hall with layers of eastern carpets, lux pashminas, beautiful table settings, and discreet lighting created an elegant venue. The 12 guests were served a nine-course tasting menu with accompanying wines. 

I'd like to publicly thank Don Sinclair, Kathleen Thompson, Peggy Thompson, Helen Bird, Nicole Chiasson, Anne Marie Koeppen, Charlotte Verborgh, Sheila Dickie, and Carol Sowerby for making it such a memorable evening. 

Your participation was integral to providing a very special evening for an appreciative group of islanders.  Many thanks!

Caution Urged with Fire Use on Labour Day Weekend

The BC Wildfire Service reminds everyone...on the Labour Day long weekend to comply with provincial legislation related to campfire use and open burning.

Although small campfires are once again allowed in most parts of British Columbia, extended hot and dry weather conditions this year have led to increased wildfire risks in many regions.

RE: Complaint to TIRRA Regarding Inappropriate Signs on Poles and Trees.

The “Deer Fencing and Deck Installation Signs” that were placed inappropriately on Hydro Pole and Trees have been removed.

If you notice any other similar signs or, if you have any further concerns, please advise.
