Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:55AM Edith Hyatt volunteers Mondays and Thursdays at the Chemainus Thrift Shop and Ron Hyatt normally drives her to the 8:05 ferry so she can be on time for work. With the change in daylight coming, and now that Ron is 94, it is best that he doesn't drive in the dark. Edith is looking for a ride to the ferry on Mondays and Thursdays to the dock from her home on Klahowya Road. If you normally travel from that side of the island to the 8:05 ferry on those days Edith would very much appreciate a lift starting in November. Please call her at 246-3038.

Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:52AM We have rescheduled our Bioengineering Ecological Restoration course to November 23rd and 24th. We are excited to offer this course for FREE thanks to our sponsors and funders.
The two-day course is aimed at anyone wanting to learn more about ecological restoration options with an emphasis on bioengineering techniques. Soil bioengineering is an applied science that uses live plant materials to perform an engineering function such as slope stabilization, soil erosion control, or seepage control.
Topics to be covered include:
* Factors involved in successful restoration
* Successional reclamation
* Soil bioengineering techniques
* Regional differences in climate, soils, hydrology, plant types, and growing seasons
* Maintenance and monitoring.
Instructor David Polster is a plant ecologist with over thirty years of experience in vegetation studies and reclamation. He has developed a wide variety of reclamation techniques for the re-establishment of riparian and aquatic habitats.
For more detailed information please visit http://www.cowichanlandtrust.ca/content/bioengineering-workshop
The registration FREE and the optional course manual is $45. Pre-registration is required. I have attached a copy of the course poster with agenda and registration form to this email for your convenience. Please feel free to pass the information on to anyone you think will be interested.
For further questions or to register for the course, please contact me by phone: (250) 746-0227 or email: info@cowichanlandtrust.ca.
Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:49AM You are invited to attend a Remembrance Day gathering at Forbes Hall on Wednesday, November 11th. Meet at the flagpole at 10:55 and at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month we shall remember them. Following the Silence you can lay a flower and then we will go into the community centre for the reading of In Flanders Field and a short Remembrance Day video. Also, Graeme Shelford will facilitate a sharing time.
Soups On at Forbes Hall at 11:30 follows this gathering, so please stay and support TICA by having a $5.00 lunch and visit with your neighbours.

Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:46AM I have dug up my entire iris garden and have a goodly bundle of iris plants with lots of new healthy growth resting at the beginning of my driveway - 123 Clam Bay Road. Drive up the small incline to a wide flat area on your left. The plants are under a green tarp. Best to bring boxes for transport as you do not want to break off the new shoots. Take as many or ALL of them, please. I can't tell you what the colours are BUT there are some magnificent specimens, mostly from our Dearly Beloved Quack Farm of the past.
Thanks for helping me and the plants,
Merry Gooding

Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 5:04PM Participants wanted! If you would like to contribute, maybe read a poem, play music, do a skit, dance, sing or bring some goodies for afterwards.....
